I do agree with that from a looks point of view though.

I think the dodge charger did a better job than the GTO at looking like other models in the lineup.

I didn't realize the chrysler dealership by my house had chargers in till yesterday night when I walked by and got a close look.
Those chargers have probably been there for a couple weeks.
I thought they were all 300C's.
Seriously, the charger, (when I realized it was one) is realllllly a big dissapointment now that I've seen it in person.
Most dealerships arehaving trouble keeping more then one on the lot. Some are even marking up the price on one to keep a demo.

There are 4 of them loaded here for like $32-$34,000 depending on options. Those R/T's have been there for a whole month still in the same places.

I do Chargers on the street sometimes. But it is rare.

Nice car... are you sure it isn't a Geo Storm with 3.4 Liter V6?

Storm
Your car

Looks like there is some DNA evidence there...

What he's absolutel accurate in that. He explained why he said the price thing was a problem being that you CAN'T go and get a stripper model that runs mid 20s if you want one. It'd be a great boost to the GTO if it did.

Depends what you mean by nice boost. Considering they're selling GTOs about as fast as they can import them, do they really need to increase sales #s? I mean, GTO is doing so well they pulled it out of the employee pricing sale. That's gotta mean something.

And besides, even if they did offer a cloth seat, no CD player, no CC car. It still wouldn't be a mid-20k range car. A fully optioned mustang is still a cheap feeling POS not in the same league as a GTO. To make a base GTO that is price competitive with the mustang would require sacrifices in all the things that make GTO a better car. Cheap cars simply cannot be dressed up. I'd just as soon drive a stripped 4th gen Z28 as a fully optioned SS, nothing about the SS is better from a day to day quality / value standpoint, The seats are no more compfortable, the interior and switches are just as cheap, just as many rattles, etc.

Other stuff:

Considering the average age and disposition of the buyer of a stripped high power car, what would a cheap model do to the insurance rates on GTOs when kids started wrapping them around trees? There's a reason insurance is cheaper on brand new 350-400hp GTOs than used '300hp' f-cars.

Let's also not forget that a cheap base model would cheapen the line and potentially downgrade the image of the car and hurt resale values.

Re: CNN talking about the Mustang, GTO and Charger

Alot of people don't realize that the GTO in Australia (Monaro) is a $60,000+ car (about $45,000 in U.S. dollars), and that's with an LS1, not LS2 like our GTO. This car was designed and built to be a "premium touring car" not a cheap hotrod.
