Going forward, don't consider a 6.0L like the L76 an LS2 replacement. Consider it more of a 5.3 replacement.

I dont think you'd have to worry about a 400 hp LS2 in a GXP version , I think it would go more like LS3 or a HSV variant ...."if" Pontiac choose to go there .

I can't imagine they won't, though maybe not in the first year.

Interesting thread. I knew the G8 was larger than some thought, but it does slot very nicely in size comparatively to the Charger. I would have guessed it to be slightly longer than the current GP if I didn't know any better, and knowing its size it is indeed perfectly sized for me.

I think the G8 is kind of a jack of all trades. As a direct GP replacement, at 30k it will be a little expensive but less than bonneville pricing and not quite GTO performance. It would be cool if GM offered some kind of reflash that up'd the hp/timing and required premium. GTP owners are used to buying premium for the supercharged cars so they are already willing. And as far as being in line with the charger...GM needs to shoot for being far ahead of its direct competition, not comparable.

Any idea what kind of mpg to expect? Ide imagine close to 28highway with afm and a6.

It would *REALLY* kill me if the GXP comes with the LS2 making 400hp. If we get a GXP with the LS3 (or something) making 420-450hp, that'd pretty much be awesome.

But, by that time, we might have 500hp 6.4L SRT8 LX cars available.

REGARDLESS of all my down talk, I still plan on test driving the car. I think it looks great, inside and out, and the platform is exciting.

The HSV version of the LS2 is over 400hp, and there are plenty of hints that a 6.2V8 will be in the 2009 Camaro. Plus, there's one in the Escalade.

I'm really not concerned about the HP rating of a GXP or GTP G8 when/if Pontiac gets around to offering one.

Anything else in that range probably already requires premium. (I know the G35 & IS350 do, and I know the LX cars are dogs in the summer and I believe they run slow on 87, so it's probably required there also).
Have you seen how many people post in the boards about mileage about their LS1's?? Many people like programmers so that they could run 87 through there z28 or trans am all the time. I think this is a real concern, especially for a sedan. For the expected GXP version, I would assume it will require the good stuff and make the extra power.
