There was never any plan for a Caliber sedan.
This comes from someone on the program since its birth.

Well, the Neon left before Diamler went back to Germany, so maybe there may have been something in the works between them.

And imagine that, dealers were actually proven to be correct this time, with Magnum sales in the dumper for quite a while now. Who woulda thunk? Assuming, of course, your information is correct.....

The Magnum is (was) a cool idea, but I knew the moment I sat in one that it was going to be hard to sell as a replacement for the Intrepid... not least because my wife, sitting next to me, said "how the hell do you see out the back of this thing?"

Seriously, I've driven mid-engined exotics with better rear visibility than a Magnum. It's hard to sell around.

Magnum sales did start their drop the month Charger ended up on the showroom floor.

While there's no doubt whatsoever that Charger is bringing new buyers to Dodge showrooms, a huge chunk of Magnum sales went to the Charger sedan.

I also find it intresting about the Charger being put together almost at the last minute. The Charger did have a last minute flurry of activity which I attributed to a redesign of a car originally based on the Super8 concept (the nose is a ringer for the Magnum, while the everything from the reversed A-pillar aft seems completely redone for the Charger).
