If you are serious, and silly little things like this song and dance routine have that much of an impact on your choice for automobile purchase, then you have deeper problems to consider.

This is one of those instances where advertising can have the opposite of the desired effect, but in this case I have not a clue what the desired effect was, and probably do not want to know...

Yes, this whole routine was pretty stupid. But I don't really see it as that big of a deal. I mean Chevy didn't run this as a Super Bowl ad or anything - and I'd bet other that the automotive equivalent of "Gym Rats" (us), no one is even aware of it.

With that said, Docherty had better quicken her step or be left for dead. Whether she was aware of this pinheaded dance or not, the responsibility for it rests squarely in her lap.

I think her response is pretty lame too. She seems more concerned with distancing herself from it. At least thats how it came across to me.

Leadership 101 - If you are the leader, you are responsible - period.

And excuses suck.

ehh depends. If someone set this up on friday, got fired and you started monday it's not your fault in charge or not.

Also if people straight don't tell you and you oversee people you literally never see I'm not going to totally blame her either. If she really didn't know, she really didn't know. She can't force someone to tell her.

Don't know the situation but I'll give her a little bit of time to set her own things in motion before I judge her on the left over actions of the person she replaced.

The person responsible is whoever said to do this no matter what their title is. Could be a totally different boss that gave the go ahead.

Point made. She started the job 8, 9 days ago. The LA Auto Show was a few weeks ago.

This falls on Lutz' shoulders as much as I hate to point out - but the more disheartening point is the most important vehicle to Chevy is not having its marketing going straight through the head OF Marketing...........what's wrong with that picture when the head of Sales and Marketing has no idea what's going on, being said, or happening witih your most important new product PR wise?

I wasn't serious, but it defiantly isn't going to make any one fonder of Chevy

Eh, ok, I'll buy that. But then again, if you weren't the leader when it happened, then you weren't the leader, and none of this applies. Thus I refer back to my 101 statement.

Also if people straight don't tell you and you oversee people you literally never see I'm not going to totally blame her either. If she really didn't know, she really didn't know. She can't force someone to tell her.
Completely disagree with this. She should know what is going on in her area of responsibility. Ignorance to stupidity is nothing more than an excuse for something else that is wrong. She is likely a victim of circumstances...understand, but don't try and pass the buck with the "I'm new here and didn't know" excuse - even if it is largely accurate. That doesn't build confidence, respect, or anything else that is good.

Don't know the situation but I'll give her a little bit of time to set her own things in motion before I judge her on the left over actions of the person she replaced.
Understandable, and I would feel the same. Still - its her responsibility now (and was as soon as she took the position), even if she inherited it.

The person responsible is whoever said to do this no matter what their title is. Could be a totally different boss that gave the go ahead.
A leader....a true leader....does not delegate responsibility (in fact, responsibility cannot be delegated). They delegate authority to get the job done, but the person in charge (the leader) is still responsible for whatever happens. That person can then hold those below him/her accountable for their actions.

If she was in charge of this department when this....thing....came out, then she is responsible - regardless of who gave the go-ahead.

And I will say I've digressed into more of a general statement vice specifically talking about this issue. I really have no issues with cutting her slack on something like this, but I do believe she should take responsibility and not use the "I didn't know about it" excuse. Suck it up and get with the program.

Ok, its the Military mindset in me coming out I guess.

Bob
