Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings

That'd be interesting. 8 speed auto versus 7 speed manual.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings

This should be interesting competing with the Charger. I wonder who will win that battle.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings

The SS will only be going up against the SRT-8. The Charger would have the power advantage with 470hp (assuming the SS comes with the LS3 and about 430hp). However, the last G8 GXP weighed 200lbs less than the SRT-8 and the SS is supposed to have even more weight savings.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings

I've been reading some speculation that while initial the SS will only come in top dog form, eventually we could see different trim levels, including a V6 version. Which begs the question, how do you distinguish between the different trim levels?

Base V6 = Chevrolet SS LS
Base V8 = Chevrolet SS 1LT
High content V8 = Chevrolet SS SS? (er... certainly not SS LTZ?)

Everything GM has said so far has pointed to only offering a high performance model. They've been pretty adamant about only using the SS moniker on deserving product.

If they offer more than one trim level maybe they will come up with a name for it.

I tend to think the SS will come with a LT1. It's starting production for MY 2014 as a premium model. Why start with the LS3 and move to the LT1 after a year or two of production.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings

Holden tends to get the latest engine a few years after it is introduced. The current Commodore didn't get the LS3 until 2009.

They should just surprise everyone and throw the LS7 in there. That would put them above the SRT-8 and keep LS7 production going along with the Camaro. They're already using them in the HSV W427

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings

Chevrolet calling for no more than 5,000 SS sales per year
Reuss expects the SS to be low volume even when compared to vehicles like the Corvette and Volt. %u201CBetween 3,000 and 5,000 (annual) sales would be great,%u201D Reuss said of the SS.
This is getting more and more disappointing. With every new report this car seems to be moving more and more up-market. How many SRT-8 Chargers and 300s do they sell per year? Dodge was able to sell 10k Challenger SRT-8s in 2009 and 2010. Only about 5k in 2011 though.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings

He didn't say they would be limiting it to 3000 to 5000 cars; he said "between 3000 and 5000 sales would be great". I'd bet they'll make as many as they can sell.

My only issue is that if it does get the LSA, like many are speculating, plus being imported from AU, the MSRP is going to be in Corvette territory.

I'd rather see it get a version of the LT1 and price it for under $40K.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings

That's what I'm thinking. If he thinks over 3000 sales is good, that tells me it will be pricey.

Even with the LS3 this isn't going to be under $40k. The G8 GXP started at $40k.

It could though. The 2013 Caprice PPV has a base price of $31,420 with the 3.6L V6. Upgrading to the 6.0L V8 shouldn't be more than $5k, which means if GM wanted to, they could easily offer the 2014 Chevrolet SS for under $40k if they packaged it appropriately.

I for one will probably end up purchasing a 2014 Impala LT, since I can't get the 2014 Caprice/SS I desire... at least through normal channels.

Page 6 shows a shot of the updated PPV Caprice interior, with column shifter. I assume the Commodore and SS will follow a similar design with a console shifter.

V8 Supercar's launch is Feb 16 so we will see the VF Commodore before the Feb 24 reveal of the SS. Maybe they'll decide to reveal both and we'll see the SS a little earlier.

The article states that all though the Caprice PPV will get a new interior, its exterior will remain the same.

I find that hard to believe. I thought the WM Caprice/Statesmen was getting a full redesign like the Commodore?
