Still not quite right. The lower grill opening will be much larger than the upper opening.
Commodore spy shots - Should be similar to the SS: http://www.aftermarketleads.com//HLI...db467e5565.jpg http://liveimages.editorial.carsales...oPad&width=555 |

We still have to wait until the Daytona 500 next February to see the actual car.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
Considering changing from buying Commodores. Test drove the Toyota 86 GTS. Such a fun little RWD car and cheap.

Code 130R Press Release There is supposed to be an update on the Code 130R at LA Autoshow next week, according to Clay Dean from GM. Alpha bases Chevy coupe that slots below Camaro. |

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
So everyone still convinced that Chevrolet SS Performance Sedan is just a "rumor" or a "placeholder" for the real name?
LAS VEGAS – Chevrolet today opened a new chapter in its storied racing history, unveiling its eagerly anticipated 2013 NASCAR Chevrolet SS race car. Powered by the legendary small block V-8 engine, the rear-wheel drive performance sedan will be Chevrolet’s newest entry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, beginning with the 2013 SpeedWeeks in Daytona, Fla. The new NASCAR race car closely resembles the all-new rear wheel drive V-8 Chevrolet SS performance sedan that will debut early next year. |
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
I think we succumbed to reality a while back Eric. lol. I hope to God it doesn't get the Malibu tail lights; something closer to the 2014 Impala would be better.
Its too bad it will only come in a 4-door sedan. :p |
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
Looks good
|
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
Not sure many like the SS nameplate on this car but it looks like we are stuck with it. It just lacks creativity and imagination on GM's part. Not to mention further confusing the nameplate with so many Chevy's to have SS as a trim and performance option rather than the name of the car. Terrible decision IMO.
I would have been ok with Commodore SS over just SS. Not that we can gather a whole lot from the looks from the NASCAR. Not that there is a whole lot of suspense on what the VF will look like overall just the nose and tail for the Chevy version but it looks good so far. |
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
Fun fact. Apparently GM has had an SS model in the past... in South Africa.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
SS would have been ok on a Chevy supercar, kinda like the Ford GT. Not that it matters though. No one will care what it's called once it actually comes out. Finally some competition for the Charger!
|
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
Its not really full line Charger competition. More like Charger SRT8 competition.
This seems to be the case with quotes from Mark Reuss such as: "The only reason we brought this car over is to go racing," and "This is not a return of the Pontiac G8." “a four-door Corvette” |
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
"This is not a return of the Pontiac G8."
Well that stinks. Why the heck not? |
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
Probably because they're not sure how well it'll sell as a Chevy; I'd also imagine the uncertainty of the US/AUS exchange rates and the cost of shipping it over would be a big factor.
|
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
I'd say shipping isn't that big of a deal since they already have boats coming over with Caprice PPVs on them.
The comments above from Reuss doesn't sound there is much chance of anything else coming over like the Ute as an ElCamino. |

Well that stinks. Why the heck not? It's not a Pontiac, it doesn't have a split grille or a Pontiac spear. Most of the front and rear sheet metal is different and the interior is revised. But it's still basically a Holden Commodore sedan (though with sheetmetal differences the VE/G8 never had), it's still has V8 power (this time, standard). It's still being promoted as a sports sedan. Colin, don't take things someone says that you can plainly see for yourself and make your own measurement so literally. It's not a replacement for the G8, it's an addition to the Chevrolet lineup which is true. Pontiac is dead and buried. But it is a car based on the same premise. But unlike the G8 which was made in both a base V6 as well as a V8 and a GXP, the Chevrolet SS is going to be made in one flavor.... much like the GTO. At least for now. |

Don't read too much into that. GM simply doesn't want to lose the rights to the name the way Ford did with "GT40" and very nearly did with "Cobra" almost 20 years ago. More recently is the legalities of Chrysler using the "Cuda" and "Barracuda" names again.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
Just wanted to throw a few facts/reminders for those few who still think the Chevrolet SS name is simply a placeholder.
There is the forementioned Chevrolet SS exported by Holden. There was also the Chevrolet SS Concept from about a decade ago that many here...including myself... thought was a design preview of the next Camaro (it was actually a creative and exaggerated version of an early design for the then next Impala). Then there was the Zeta based coupes. Pontiac's version was to be called GTO. Chevrolet's version was to be called the Chevrolet SS (the sedans would have been the Grand Prix and the Impala). Pontiac's G8 ended up the defacto next gen GTO when GM decided against a new Monaro, while the planned Chevrolet SS coupe became the late arriving (by 5 years) SS sedan. |
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
Motor Trend is reporting that the SS will have a 8-speed transmission.
|
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
In that case they might as well throw the C7's 7 speed manual in there.

Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
This should be interesting competing with the Charger. I wonder who will win that battle.
|
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
The SS will only be going up against the SRT-8. The Charger would have the power advantage with 470hp (assuming the SS comes with the LS3 and about 430hp). However, the last G8 GXP weighed 200lbs less than the SRT-8 and the SS is supposed to have even more weight savings.
|
Re: Chevy SS/Commodore VF Renderings
I've been reading some speculation that while initial the SS will only come in top dog form, eventually we could see different trim levels, including a V6 version. Which begs the question, how do you distinguish between the different trim levels?
Base V6 = Chevrolet SS LS Base V8 = Chevrolet SS 1LT High content V8 = Chevrolet SS SS? (er... certainly not SS LTZ?) :p |
