chevy colorado..i thought it was supposed to be bigger???

saw the new colorado at the memphis auto show,what a let-down!i was under the impression this truck would be bigger than the S-10,yet it looks like a re-skinned S-10 rather than a all-new truck,if someone didn't know any better,it looked as though chevy just slapped a new front end on the old truck.this was the sport package(i guess)regular cab 2WD.so does anyone know what's bigger??the bed possibly?it can't be the interior,it still looks tiny.i'll hold total judgement until i see a 4WD version,but the truck seems to be a misstep by chevy.

It is bigger than an S10. It looks about the same size as a Dakota.

Too bad it's so ugly.

If these trucks are intended to replace the S10&Sonoma linup and the Trailblazer/Envoy is to totally replace the Blazer/Jimmy linup then shouldn't they all have the same engine?
The Trailblazer gets the cool I6 270Hp but the Colorado only gets a I4 170Hp w/ optional I5 215Hp???
If they are reletivly the same size shouldn't they share engines?
Mabye the I6 will be an option on future years of the Colorado........
Please share your thought on this subject.

From what I've heard, the I6 won't fit in the Colorado. I actually like the styling of it. Now if GMC would only bring back the Syclone.

I have the specs on the Colorado/Canyon, S-10/Sonoma, and Dakota.
The Colorado/Canyon is nowhere near the size of the Dakota. As a matter of fact, it's just a smidge bigger than the S-10/Sonoma.

Let's look at a regular cab, short bed for comparison (it appears the new truck will not have a long bed as an option).

Overall length:
Colorado = 192.4" S-10 = 190.1"
Wheelbase:
Colorado = 111.2" S-10 = 108.3
Overall width:
Colorado = 67.6" S-10 = 67.9"
Overall height:
Colorado = 64.8"-67.7" S-10 = 62.1" - 65.4"
Cargo box length:
Colorado = 73" S-10 = 72.8"

(I can't find my Dakota specs)

No, the Colorado shares NOTHING with the current S-series pick-ups or with the TrailBlazer.

I do not know why GM calls it a midsize pick-up. If it's not Dakota sized, then it's not a midsize. Just a marketing ploy I guess.

All this, however, will not deter me from getting a Colorado. I plan on ordering a regular cab, ZQ8 (sport suspension) in white this summer. Hopefully I will see it in October.

Colorado will come with a ZQ8? Do you have any details?

re-skinned S-10 ??? it looks nothing like the S-10. I think the Colorado is 100% better looking than the S-10. This is probably the best looking pickup Chevy has put out (aside from the Silverado SS). If you want a bigger truck then the Silverado is for you.

The 220HP I5 should be enough power but I would like to see a 4.8L V8 in the future.

as far as the I4 goes, the S-10 has a 2.2L 120HP, 140lb/ft I4
The Colorado will have a 2.8L 175HP, 185lb/ft. I4

The Colorado is definitely a compact truck. Considering that this segment has been cooling off for years, I'd say it was a mistake not to offer a mid-sized truck and retain the S-10 for a while more.
Look at the upcoming Dakota. It had grown so large in developement that Chrysler actually decreased the dimensions to distance it from the Ram.

Of course, we have to remember that the Colorado was almost entirely designed by Isuzu. This platform is primarily meant to sell in the Third World (Thailand, Brazil, etc...), so the demands of the American market took second priority. Personally, if I wanted a useless little truck, I'd buy a Toyota. Most of the people in the the Third World feel the same way.

I like the styling. It looks bigger than the S-10 in pictures, but I can't wait to see it in person. Unfortunatly for me, it looks like I'm gonna have to buy the wife a new car first, so I'm looking at the new Equinox.

I think it looks like one of those "angry kitchen appliences" Bob Lutz mentioned when he commented on some of GM's designs when he 1st got there.

I like the looks of the Equniox quite a bit. Probably because I didn't even know it was coming. Unlike the Colorado.

For more details and pics, goto www.chevy.com .
Under "Trucks/SUVs/Vans", click the down arrow and select "Colorado". Another window will open up. You will need some Flash player to see this.
After it loads, mouse over "Give Me More". A dropdown box will appear.
Scroll down to Colorado preview and left click. It's a PDF file, so you'll need Acrobat to see it. It takes a while to download with dial-up.
There's 2 pages. The first shows a Colorado front end in the mud.
The second page shows all the different configurations and colors.
It's there that you will see the content of the different packages.

The ZQ8 is available on the regular, extended, and quad cabs only in 2WD. It includes a lower ride height, Bilstein shocks, quicker power steering ratio, body colored grille,bumper,spear, wheel flares,and rub moldings. Also fog lamps and 17x8 aluminum rims with 235/50 17 tires.

Check out the site. It's pretty cool.
