I think it means that the Cobalt's interior doesn't cause cancer...as often in lab rats as other vehicles.

It measures the amount of Bromine, Chlorine, and lead in the car. Also a few other chemicals. But those are the main ones.

Thats an interesting finding. I'm surprised that the Cobalt had one of the healthier interiors, I would almost expect the materials to be a little cheaper in that car.

Interior is on par with most $15,000 dollar cars. Which might have something to do with it. Chemicals arent free you know. I dont think any car manufactur really strives to be the healthest.

Isn't that called, "New Car Smell"...
I remember not to long ago when there was a lot of concern with the levels of toxic out-gasing in RV's and Mobile homes...seems that it was formaldahyde.
Wikipedia: The chemical compound formaldehyde (also known as methanal) is a gas with a pungent smell. It is the simplest aldehyde. Its chemical formula is H2CO.....
and
....Most formaldehyde is used in the production of polymers and other chemicals. When combined with phenol, urea, or melamine, formaldehyde produces a hard thermoset resin. These resins are commonly used in permanent adhesives, such as those used in plywood or carpeting.......
They are also foamed to make insulation, or cast into molded products.
Their advice was to open the windows as much as possible for the first week or two.
