Chevy Camaro resembles the Chevy Volt

Have you guys seen the Chevy Volt? Awww, this car is wicked COOL. If you like the new sporty Camaro style look, AND want to keep the Earth green, check out the CHEVY VOLT!

For those of us, who want the Camaro but don't want to destroy the planet in the process either:

General Motors has unveiled the Chevrolet Volt concept, the company's first plug-in hybrid vehicle, at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Chevrolet Volt concept is the first vehicle to use GM's new E-flex family of propulsion systems. GM claims the Volt delivers triple-digit fuel economy and can travel up to 640 miles without a fuel fill-up or a battery recharge.

How the Volt works
By its own admission, GM is late to the party on hybrid vehicles. Yet the Volt still manages to turn conventional hybrid thinking on its ear. While current hybrids employ a battery-powered electric motor to supplement or complement a gasoline-powered engine, the Volt runs only on electric power until the battery runs down. Then and only then does the internal combustion engine kick in but not to propel the car but to feed the onboard generator that produces electricity while the car is operating. The electricity is then stored in the battery. Energy normally lost in braking also is recaptured and sent to the battery. The batteries can also be recharged by plugging into an electrical outlet.

The specs for triple-digit fuel economy
The Volt features a front-mounted electric motor that generates 120 kilowatts of power (160 horsepower) and 236 pound-feet of torque. Lithium-ion batteries are housed beneath the Volt's floor. Also onboard is a 53-kilowatt electric generator. The turbocharged, 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine also fits up front, while the 12-gallon fuel tank is in the rear.

The Volt will drive about 40 miles on pure electric power. Vehicle Line Director Tony Posawatz (whose name rhymes with "kilowatts"), says GM arbitrarily picked this distance because Department of Transportation studies show that half of U.S. households travel less than 30 miles per day, while 78 percent of commuters travel no more than 40 miles per day to work.

"Most Volt drivers would use little or no gasoline,"

I think I may have found THE car for me. Energy efficient, good for the environment and green.

Yes, we have seen the Volt. Yes, this would be the wrong forum. Yes, maybe if you squinted real hard and contorted your face and took a blunt-force blow to the head you might see Camaro in the Volt.

The Volt is for those of you who really believe cars like the Camaro are destroying the planet.

The Volt in no way is an alternative to the Camaro.

Yeesh.

(Sorry, it's been a REALLY bad day.)

Has anyone seen on the Discovery channel "Future Car?" Wicked cool stuff going on. It seems they have perfect electric cars are quicker at the line that the combustable engine. They had a PURE electric car 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and blew away a porche at the line.

I LOVE the new Camaro, but given the choice between the new Camaro and the Volt, I'd go with the "think green" Volt. It's a sharp car.

I wish they'd make the Camaro as an electric alternative as well.
Love the Camaro look, but not the greenhouse effects.
I could care less what's under the hood of the new Camaro. I love the look of it, just don't need to be paying $4 a gallon. We gotta get off gasoline. Amazingly, electrical cars are way easier to maintain mechanically and are NOT under powered.
In a flat out right race, the electric car beat an old school restored big block Camaro with ease, as well as a Lamborghini.
You gotta see that show "Future Car" on Discovery.

Watch it. It will blow your mind. It's not number manipulation either.
There is some never before seen or released footage in there from outer space showing the damage done. The amount of carbon monoxide and pollutants put out in the last 100 years is staggering. The overwhelming physical evidence and proof is undeniable. This DVD is a MUST SEE.

Ever been to Los Angeles? The smog is SO bad I could NOT believe it. The entire city is gray and disgusting. It's grose. It's just plain common sense, but those greedy bastards who own all the oil wants us to believe in the past 100 years there's no alternative. It's all about the $$$$money

It ALWAYS is......millionairs becoming Billionares.

I understand global warming is a big issue for you. Imagine what would happen if the water under your bridge rose...

Damn straight it is... It's getting old... No offense but I think anyone here that believes gasoline is killing our planet (even though it is harming it) is in the wrong forums... It's a Camaro website! True Camaro fans don't mind burning a gallon of gas every 5 miles! No but seriously, we we're just learning about this in class today... The global average temperature has rised a whomping 1.2 degree's in a century. The Chevy Volt is a pretty nifty car though

I do want to see that documentary; however, I said global warming is overhyped, not that we are dumping masses of contaminants into our environment and atmosphere... It is undeniable that CO2 levels have indeed increased some 28% just in the past 50 years alone. However, it is unclear exactly what effect this has had, if any, on global warming.

I mean, I still agree that we need to reduce our dependency on oil and it is in our best interests to reduce our emissions, I am just saying that there is no conclusive evidence that we have in anyway had an impact on global warming.

And that is a global average. Interestingly enough if you look at a number of rural areas temperature records you actually see that their local temeratures have decreased... certainly not a trend you would expect to see if the entire globe in warming.

As late as 12,000 years ago, much of North America was covered by glaciers. That's not too long ago. Right around the time of the birth of our country there was a really cold spell. Heck, the "Little Ice Age" resulted in the great Potato famine in Ireland, and if you watch the History Channel, the proliferation of beer in America rather than wine.

My point is, the climate on this planet is always in flux. A large volcano halfway around the world could burp enough ash and gases into the atmosphere to make it snow here in July. Even the most advanced computer weather models cannot agree on what is causing global warming, or where it is going.

That said, I really do like the Volt. Tone back the styling, and give me a decent price tag and I might consider owning one. I don't, however, think that owning one will save the planet.

Is this thread a joke? Are you a propagandist for the left or something? Greenpeace maybe?

EDIT: A quick search of your other posts doesn't necessarily support troll status, but this particular thread reads like a bad joke to me.

I definitely think the Volt is a great concept (though I'm actually not a huge fan of the styling, or at least the strange side window treatment). But to say you are "destroying the earth" by driving a Camaro is pretty lame (and inflammatory) IMHO.

As for millionaires becoming billionaires, why do you think Al Gore is doing what he's doing? Why do you think he is a co-founder and chairman of one of those "green" companies that sells "carbon offset credits", which he buys to "offset" the enormous amount of energy burned to heat/cool/light his gigantic mansion, all while he fights for the environment and the common man?

Volt is a cool car. Finally a green car that looks cool.

also.. they Camaro is hardly even a problem when it comes to Global warming/pollution. The Prius is over all worse for the environment that the Camaro thanks to all the extra energy used to make two powertrains and the toxic batteries. I think there was an article out a few moths back about how the Prius plant is one of the most polluting in the world.

All those new old fashion coal power plants in Texas that they are trying to build before the new regulations kick in are going to be a pollution nightmare.

There is also a pretty good chance that at least one Camaro model will be E85 too.

Here's a good article to show just how much GM hates weight and what they did to avoid it on the Volt
