Chevy ad during baseball All-Star Game: There's no word in Japanese for pickup truck.

Anyone else catch that during the MLB All-Star Game last night?

There was a Chevy truck ad where it zooms in on a bumper sticker that says: "There's no word in Japanese for pickup truck." (Or something very similar.) Gave me a good chuckle.

Though with the full-size truck market and the brand loyalty that exists there, Chevy was probably preaching to the choir with this little stab.

Now, I'll sit back and wait for Threxx's comment that there's no word in English for "quality."

You didn't happen to catch the opening ad did you? Or tape the Game, by any chance?

I think I saw the ad run at least twice, once toward the beginning and again near the end, but no I didn't tape any of the game.

Fun and games.

I suppose that means the Tacoma is a poor competitor for the Colorado, Ranger, and Dakota?

I beg to differ.

Just because they both have those goofy looking support bars running diagonally from the top of the cab to the front area of the bed doesn't mean they're intended to be competitors.

Not that I'd be dumb enough to try and make a commercial or even an arguement out of it, but FWIW there is no direct english equivalent to the Japanese word "Kaizen".

Japanese for 'change for the better' or 'improvement'

Seems like improvement would be a pretty direct equivalent.

Close, but 'improvement' is not as specific as Kaizen. Kaizen is in reference specifically to the manufacturing process; sharing tips and tricks as a team through efficient/direct communication to improve quality, increase speed of production, and reduce waste (Toyota for example, to my knowledge, was the innovator of "just in time" manufacturing)
