Chevrolet to replace Impala with SS in NASCAR
Chevrolet announced on Thursday the return of the SS that will hit showroom floors as a 2014 model late in 2013. The Chevrolet SS is a great example of how GM is able to leverage its global product portfolio to deliver a unique performance experience that extends beyond the track." "As a passionate race fan and performance enthusiast, I am thrilled that Chevrolet will deliver a true rear-wheel-drive NASCAR racecar in the SS that is closely linked to the performance sedan that will be available for sale," said Mark Reuss, president of GM North America.
Is it just called an "SS" or is it a "SS" something else?

I'm really surprised they're just calling it 'SS'. A bit uninSSpired. It's as if they didn't want to risk using a name from the past (Chevelle) and couldn't come up with anything new that sounded halfway decent.
If Dodge can have great success with a four door Charger, I'm not sure why it couldn't be a Chevelle - a car that was actually available as a sedan.

Stupid name, but I'm sure it will be a sweet car. Kinda weird that it will be sold in such low volumes and for such a short time, like the G8 all over again.

Stupid name. This had better not be some lame *** version of the already almost 20 year old looking Caprice. If it is, it had better have all new sheetmetal that doesn't look like it's from 1995.

It's not going to be called SS. I don't know why everyone is so antsy about this. It will have an SS model, but the car itself is not going to be just called SS. Just because Chevy hasn't released the name for it yet, doesn't mean it won't have a name.

I guess this means it will be available in limitted numbers and only with a V8. (Personally I was hoping for an entry level LS version with the 3.6L DI - V6.)
I also agree its a stupid name... but then it follows GM's backward logic from more than three decades ago when the Malibu (a Chevelle trim line) became its own model.
Way to screw-up the SS name for future generations GM, only to line your own pockets.

They're saying 9000 units annually with LSA power down-under.
If that's true, we can expect ZL1 prices... or greater.
