Challenger concept at Detroit......that's 6 months from now!
Re: Challenger concept at Detroit......that's 6 months from now!
Wow Bob, you and I are on complete opposites about the Charger. My local dealer has a R/T sitting on his corner platform (has been there a couple of weeks). It is that hideous creamy color. I thought it looked terrible. While I have never cared for the pictures, in the flesh, in that color, it was much worse than the pictures.
My mother-in-law pointed at it as we drove by, and asked, "what is that ugly car over there?"
Maybe it looks better in other colors???
That said, I wouldn't count on it being much lighter than the Charger............ if at all. I just don't see Chrysler spending all the money to shorten and lighten the platform for a coupe.

All 3 of the Chargers at Va Beach Dodge were black. I liked em a lot.
I have little faith that the Challenger will be light either, but its always good to hope.

Although with that said, if they made a two door SRT-8 like that photoshop floating around and I could get it with a stick... man I'd take a long hard look at it.

Chargers are boring and don't stand out, the back looks just like previous Dodge sedans. People just aren't buying them like crazy for a variety of reasons, like looks, name, too many doors, boring, etc. I think they're good cars and are also roomy, but the name doesn't belong and they just don't have the looks. There's a pretty loaded HEMI R/T sitting at a local dealer here in the front for a little over 2 weeks or more now at $34,600 and no one even seems interested. There's another there for $36,000 and that one will sit longer than the other.

Yep...iron block aluminum heads.

But just curious. Why should they keep the SRT tag off of it? A 6.1 Challenger probably would be the second fastest SRT they make behind the SRT-10 Viper. I mean the 5.7 Challenger could be the "Hemi" Challenger since both cars would have "Hemis".

I was thinking retro.I like "hemi challenger".maybe your right though, they may have to differentiate between the 5.7 and 6.1.

Since the cat's out of the bag at Chrysler, I think I can say rest assured, it ISN'T a 2 door Charger.
There's going to be other cars "of intrest" at NAIAS this coming season.
Make your reservations now.

I expect it to have a shorter wheelbase than Charger...but still be a relatively large coupe.

Haven't seen one on the streets yet, have you?
As far as people not buying them like crazy, that's not the word so far:
"Early feedback on the Dodge Charger has been extremely positive and indicates that customers are excited about the Dodge brand's reinterpretation of the classic," said Dilts. "Consumers have already bought 1,841 units during May in only 10 days of being available and very few vehicles actually on dealers' lots."
June will be the 1st full month of Charger sales, and production is still ramping up. We'll be able to compare it to 1st month production of the 300 and the Magnum.
Stay tuned.
Re: Challenger concept at Detroit......that's 6 months from now!
I have seen several R/T and non-R/T chargers and I think the charger is a great looking car! It is not as boring as most four door cars, but it is not an extreme look either. I can understand people disliking it because they dislike 4-doors, but aside from that, i think it is the best looking and most exciting non-luxury four door available....and on top of that it offers a V8 and RWD.
