Cerberus joins group of financial investors to bid for Jaguar and Land Rover

Autoblog.com

While poring over the RSS feeds today, we noticed a tiny article in Automotive News about Ford's desire to sell off both Jaguar and Land Rover. The potential sale has been in the news as of late, but this article caught our eye because it reveals a potential bidder with which we're all familiar. According to Automotive News, three private equity groups including Blackston, Cinven and... Cerberus (!) have shown interest in joining the auction for two of Ford's Premiere Auto Group brands. Cerberus, of course, is the same private equity group involved in the purchase of Chrysler from DaimlerChrysler.
Would be interesting to see the whole article in Automotive News, but I don't have a subscription.

Not sure on how this news true it is, but in light of it, one can't help but imagine Cerberus evolving into it's own car company.

They might want to consider a name change if that is their intent...

Makes me wonder if they are trying to create their own GM type company with all the car and parts companies they are buying up.

The dog that guards hell might have a ring to it to certain members of the population, but probably not to mom and dad in the dealership to check out a Caravan...

Plus, the word just doesn't pronounce very well. It doesn't roll off the tongue nicely. I think it is at least partially due to the two "er" syllables in a row.

What if it were Chrysler? Or just an acronym?

If Cerberus decides to roll various auto-related acquisitions into a single company and spin it off, that company will almost certainly be called "Chrysler Corporation". That's where the mass-market brand equity is.

It would be interesting to see how platfrom sharing effects the Viper and the XJ models...
