GT
The Type LT I'm refering to is the '73 model.

It replaced the SS and was suggested by Gertrude McWilliams, and ad executive at Cambell-Ewald (Chevy's ad agency).

It was described as: "The top of the line GT offering with a bit more luxury and comfort than the RS and SS and alot less hair than Z/28".

Here's my blueprint for a future Camaro breakdown:

1) BUDGET GT: Entry level affordable Camaro. Maybe with optional V8.

2) LUXURY GT: Luxury and comfort...but also fast. In the original spirit of Type LT or SS.

3) PERFORMANCE GT: A Z06 style Z/28

Thats cool. I'd like to see it this way:

Budget: Base Camaro V6

Budget V8: Camaro RS

Luxury V8: Camaro SS

Performance V8: Camaro Z28

All performance attributes and looks would get better with each model. The SS would get the comfort options and be a really good handler but without the tough ride as much as possible. The Z28 on the other hand, is the no compromise anything car, all out performance in all fields, the top model M*****g destroyer, obviously kinda limited.

Lightbulb

Camaro: base model w/V6
Camaro RS: longer list of standard items w/ V6 standard, LS1 optional
Camaro SS: Performance model with all creature comforts w/LS1 standard & 6.0 liter optional (called SS/6.0...of course)
Camaro Z28 base model with 6.0 engine, top brakes & handling equptment.

Each model would be a "package" and therefore would be cheaper to produce than the long option lists which most people would prefer, yet still offer more flexibility when choosing the right car.

SS would still be the most expensive & well equpted (and would still have the top engine available), but Z28 by focusing on the hardware would still be the quickest, purpose driven car, much along the lines of the original.

Meanwhile, there would still be a low cost base model, and a modest price model that offers a "mid range" V8.

A Camaro line that covers all bases at minimal cost to GM.

Camaro may need all those models....especially if Mercury gets it's Mustang based, luxury oriented, Cougar around '06.

And while we're talking Mercury, I always liked these Capri drawings.
