Car and Driver tuner shootout

Here are some preliminary results and pictures. Unfortunatly, this only shows the first 3 out of 5 runs on the first board.
Results board 1
Results Board 2
Group Shot 1
Group Shot 2

Looks like the Hennessy Viper took the win. The evo held its own, though. It was plagued by an IC hose that kept blowing off.

man...i thought Hennessey was out of business after that bad rap they took a few years back....

If i'm reading the handwriting on that board right, it ran a best of 10.96@142.8mph

To me it looks like the Lingenfelter won.

Re: Car and Driver tuner shootout

do they add up the fastest times for every event, or are they averaging them first then doing the total time? cause for the 150-0 test someone messed up(i'm assuming locked up the brakes) and went an extra 200 feet

They arn't seperate events. Each car gets 5 runs through their circut with the different sections measuring 0-60, 1/4 mile, top speed, ect. The total time is how long it takes to complete one full run through the entire circut.

Re: Car and Driver tuner shootout

On the first results board i noticed this:

HPA Volkswagen R32
1/4 mile times:

12.02 @ 117.6
11.09 @ 116.5

What happened there? They gained nearly a full second int he 1/4 on the second run and lost over 1mph trap speed? And that thing beat the lingenfelter CTS-V AND corvette times. Maybe 11.09 was supposed to be 12.09 and someone wrote it down wrong??

Yep, It actually ran a 12.09. There was a timing error that was later corrected.

Re: Car and Driver tuner shootout

Do these cars have serious traction issues? Or are their drivers not as good? There are trap speeds of 140+ mph for the Viper that only managed mid-10's? And 135mph for 11-second Corvette?

I think this is on a normal track, not a preped drag track. They arn't wearing drag tires either as they had to go into a road course after the initial acceleration section.

Re: Car and Driver tuner shootout

thats disappointing... I know if I had about $200,000 laying aruond for an exotic car, I'd want a Mosler... for the sake of having a domestic exotic... that weighs in only a little heavier than a Elise...

Re: Car and Driver tuner shootout

What do they do about the v's rear end on the Lingenfelter when stock ones are grenading them with hard launches?
I want one very badly.
And its a Cadillac, how cool is that?

Too bad there was not any modified XLRs in the running.
