Car & Driver 4-Cyl Tuner Test
I'd love to see C&D do a comparo of DIY cars, and I'd be more than happy to enter such an event with my vehicle. Of course, such an event would pretty much resemble any local autocross event, so I'm not sure the idea is all that unique
However, it sure would be fun to show a few million readers just how well a home-brew car can perform against some overpriced tuner car (which is really an ironic name, considering how many "tuner cars" carry a ****-poor tune), and I'm sure that more than a few jaws would drop at just how much performance can be extracted from a modern RWD car with a rather minimal investment.

Long ago, I dreamed of starting a magazine that compared cars of similar PRICE, regardless of whether they were new or used. Back then, we could have had some really hilarious comparisons like a 1970 big-block Corvette vs. a new Hyundai. (We're talking late 80s here, remember).
Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever happen, just as I think DIY car tests won't happen in mainstream rags like Car and Drivel--their bills are paid by the people who make and sell new cars, not old ones.
Perhaps something for the Hot Rods or Car Crafts of the world--or perhaps a new category altogether. I'd love to see a bunch of DIY against the best of the new cars and the best of the tuners. I suspect there would be a lot of surprises there!

I was too busy reading the first drive of the CTS-V and the C5 suspension comparo.
But I did notice the Fourgasm and the seeing the dissapointing results then I flipped to the last page to see the pic with the Z16 Z06 putting the smack down on the field.
I loved the caption uder the photo.... kinda sums up the problem for most 4 bnagers doens't it.....

They loved the chassis and the motor. Didn't like steering column and thought shifter was rubbery.
Struck by how refined the Corvette's motor felt. (400hp, 390 lb/ft for this LS6...apparently the Corvette rule still exists, even for Caddy).
Can do better lap times at Nurburgring than M3 or M5.
At < $50g's C&D calls it "an amazing bargain".
I just saved you $3.99 there sport.

Anyone know if this thing is getting a limited-slip out back? If so, bolt on some stickies and I'm positive it'll do 12s with a good driver.
