Canada's brutal budget proposal
Consider also, a one time "tax" is annual mileage neutral, whereas gas tax is directly proportional to the amount you drive.
I don't feel like re-reading the whole thread to see if someone mentioned it, but Flex Fuel is also covered under the rebate, so the purchase cost premium will be offset. This is especially good for GM with their numerous flex fuel offerings.

Why haven't they started taxing or fining the Airline Industry, Aerospace which "is them" for the most part, or Busing and Commercial vehicles???
Just like E-Check, which was a joke...and everyone knew it, why did they check under the hoods of cars when the pollution coming out of the tail-pipe was the problem?
Where's all the data on how these vehicles are destroying the environment more than others???
Why not use independent laboratories, instead of hand-picked puppets looking for research funding??
The amount of extra pollution, to me, doesn't warrant the penalty tax, or at least it hasn't been proven to...
I'd be willing to bet there's a LOT more propaganda about pollution and Global Warming in Canada than here as well...

Do what? The child care tax credit encourages someone to get child care? That's silly. I 'collected' this credit for several years. It is basically the Gov't covering part of the cost of your babysitter. That's it. It doesn't "encourage" anything....though one could argue it gives the smoker with kids the means to buy MORE cigarettes.
Actually, I think the point of the credit is to get more parents to work -- especially single parents. If the child care costs more than you get paid (or even 1/2 what you get paid), then.....

Gas guzzler tax does the same thing.

) for buying a car with good gas mileage, I'm more likely to do it....The fact that it raises money for the gummint is a bonus!
Just based on the people I've seen, you're probally one of the rare ones who actually need-use something that big.
). What if someone just WANTS more knee room? Buyers are free to choose what they WANT and need. I know my Dad's 2000 Silverado ext. cab sure feels more spacious, than say, a Trailblazer. He likes the feeling... and I'd bet a lot are in the same boat as him (no pun intended). This hogwash by Canada though - just another socialist attempt at relying on government to fix something which arguably, might not even need fixing.
