If it weren't for the fact that the "small block" is used in Chevy, Poncho, Caddy, Buick, Hummer, Holden, etc, then they could fall back on some Chevy names from the GMPP folks like "bowtie" or Ram Jet. I think the Ecotec name is doing well, but they could promote it better.

It would be kinda cool if they were to re-use the old "Blue Flame" name on a modern 6 cylinder

Here's why GM can't lean on the LSx "legacy" to market it's smallblock V8s.

The origin of the LS6 engine code...

The real origin of the LS6 engine code was the rare LS6 454ci motor in the 1970 Chevelle SS, I believe.

you're right. but my point is the term "Hemi" was never used on a super economy class of engine. basically there is little or no "lineage" to be traced with GM engine codes. GM just generally shuffles them around. The recent LS engines are a stark departure from that, but they are too recent to be used in the same way as the "Hemi" is marketed. Nissan's VQ engines are considered to be their best, and they are now over 10 years in the running. But you don't see Nissan marketing "that thing got a VQ in it" do you?

The actualy market the VQ engine very well. Go to a Nissan dealer, and they have displays of there 3.5 engine talking about how it won Ward's Top 10 Engines for the past X amount of years. I have customers come and tell me how there dealer tells them its one of the best engines ever made.

I don't know why "LSx" couldn't work...even "tree-fitty" could work, just use SOMETHING, geezus. This Hemi nonsense is pissing me off because everyone thinks its top dog now simply because its advertised so well.

yeah, a tech and I got into a verbal fight over the Hemi vs LS1.
Gotta hand it to them at DCX...they sure got a hit. I would like to see the sale of a Hemi Dakota....true test of the Hemi's power

Since nothing is sacred anymore and Olds may never come back, I wouldn't object to a Rocket V8 in a Chevy. I mean, if there's Hemis in Jeeps and Chryslers...

Or, egads, make up a new name?

"Smallbock" is way too generic, and other companies make smallblock engines too. People would misconstrue what Smallblock means, anyway. It probably won't hurt Chevy, but it won't give them a leg up in the Hemi race.

that could work since the Gen3/4 SBCs use lots of things that were done to racing versions of the SBC. Raised deck height, raised camshaft height, 12&15° heads, etc.

The worst thing about it is a lot of people think 350's are all the same, like a lot of people think the new Hemi's are just like the ones back in the muscle car era. There's a kid I know who thinks his 3rd gen RS will hang with me just because his car has a '350' in it like mine .
