Can the term "smallblock" have the same impact as "Hemi".
Re: Can the term "smallblock" have the same impact as "Hemi".
What is not "Hemi" about the new Hemi? It has hemispherical heads with the spark plug in the center. This is where the name comes from. What am I missing?

That term has no character. 350 Chevy was basically the famous term for us. (it always will be) There really isn't anything now for new cars. Unless Vortec becomes a thing for high performance cars too.
We've always had designations throughout the years that people would know though. L98, LT1, LS1, LS6, ZL1, LS7, etc. What GM forgets is to label the cars right. In the 60's they had the ci. on the car and liters in the 70's and 80's. Also, in the 80's there were names on the cars to give character and tell them apart such as H.O. or Tuned Port Injection. When did the 4th Gens have any of this? Never. Why not put LT1 or LS1 on the cars? C4's said L98 on the console, there's some int. labeling. The H.O. and Tuned Port Injection names also appeared on the engines. The GTO does have the liters but the C6 and Z06 should have it too. I think using the engine ci sometimes again would be cool also.

Just use truncation instead of rounding!!

Eh, it's still closer to "real" than the "350" LS-1 that was 346ci...

It's obvious that GM wants to do the same to the term "smallblock" (as in smallblock Chevy......but without the Chevy part).
They even have a website:http://smallblock.gmblogs.com/
Do you think GM can pull it off? Or is the Hemi branding just better?

screw it.. just concentrate making good cars, give some factory support in various fields of racing, and continue support the aftermarket, rodder, and crate market... Do that and you won't have to rely on a marketing gimmic.

Ford needs to learn some basic math too: their "5.0" litre V8 is really 4942cc which translates to 4.9L no matter if you use rounding or truncation.
Also, I don't recall anyone ever calling the LS1 a "350", except possibly people who don't know much about cars and didn't realize it's a different engine. But they are both 5.7 litres.

Modern hemis still have mostly hemispherical combustion chambers; the only reason people say they don't is because there's two small triangular 'tangs' intruding on the combustion chamber in the middle between the valves. That's it.
Heart-shaped combustion chambers are a characteristic of heads where the valves are all arranged inline with each other. Hemis, even the modern ones, have their two valves per cylinder perpendicular to the length of the cylinder head.

your both right. While not a ture hemisperical shape--it is close.

Smallbock makes you think tiny. Why did GM kill Oldsmobile? It had the word OLD in it. Remeber that before you bash my statement that GM added Hummer and ditched OLDS.
As for HEMI. I being a Gm guy think of Joe Dirt, "HEY JOE DIRT DOES THAT GOT A HEMI INSIDE." But it work for DCX.
