Camaro references that annoy me......

Are there some Camaro references that annoy you?

I have some.....

I can't stand it when someone refers to a Camaro as a "Maro". Are you just so low energy...that you need to delete a 2 letter syllable. Maybe some people feel it's a "cool" way of saying CAMARO.....but to me it's as annoying as someone scratching their fingernails on a blackboard. BTW, I'm equally annoyed when someone refers to an automatic transmission as a "matic".

I guess the worst would be...."I got a Maro with a matic".

Another thing I've always hated was the saying...."Camaro is the poor man's Corvette"

I know alot of rich men who own Camaro's. Besides, it just makes it sound like everyone who has a Camaro....really wanted a Vette...but settled for a Camaro. That really irritates me.

Any more annoying phrases??

When someone calls a Trans Am "Boyer Racerish"....

I know it is styled outragously...but many people that would be considered a "boy" can afford a Trans Am..?

I agree with everyone so far.

One thing that annoys me a little is when people can't say the word The. Examples: "When Camaro comes out." "Chevrolet Camaro will be coming out soon." Why is it so difficult to say when the Camaro, or the Chevrolet Camaro??

How about the "redneck" and "mullet car" stereotypes/references applied to both cars and owner? They seem to be applied to american cars in general, but more so the camaro.

Never bothered me at all.

Great car, love mine to death.

It isn't a Corvette though... and honestly, I'd have bought a Vette at the time if I thought it prudent financially.

So, in the end, it's my "poor man's Corvette".

And a DAMNED FINE ONE at that.

Actually, it's correct grammar to not use the "the" when talking about a car in general terms because car names like "Camaro" are proper names. It'd be like saying, "I'm going over to the Bob's house to see him and the Sheryl." However, you do use the "the" when talking about a specific vehicle. For example, "Camaro is expected to return in 2007" is correct because it's talking about the vehicle line; but "I'm taking the Camaro to the track this weekend" is correct because it's talking about a specific car.

On a related note, since vehicle names are proper names they are not subject to the normal rules of pluralization. When there's more than one Chevy it's "Chevys" not "Chevies"; or more than one Ford Focus is "Focuses", not "Foci". To get further off track, few people seem to know how to use apostrophes: never use an apostrophe to denote a plural, even on acronyms or abbreviations. And when pronouns are possesive there should not be an apostrophe, thus "GM regretted its decision" does not have an apostrophe on "its".

Okay, grammar class is over .

I call my Camaro a "Maro" around my friends that know that I'm talking about my car. When I meet someone and start talking about cars I say "Camaro". I don't know why it bothers you so much, do you always say Chevrolet or do you sometimes say "Chevy"?

That's the way they write the brochures. For example, from the 1997 Camaro brochure: "When you step inside, you are ready to experience the best part of Camaro - the relationship between car and driver." or "Everything you've always loved about Camaro - legendary muscle, timeless good looks, crisp cornering - is even better in a Z28 convertible." It sounds so lame...

It bothers me as well. Its kind of like someone calling San Francisco "Frisco".

IMHO anyone that says "Maro" should be shot!

Or at least have their keys taken from them if they in fact own a CAMARO.

BTW... saying "Chevy" is totally different. Now if you had said "Rolet", you'd have a point.

being a third gen owner, you hear the "redneck" crap a lot.

Camero makes me want to stab someone in the eye with a blunt object.

I sometime just say "Z" when I talk about my car. Then I always get some fool saying, "Oh, you got a 300Z?"

Poor-Mans vette is another one. Dont know how many "poor" people can afford a 30k SS Camaro?

And the "the" thing is odd. Its odd when you talk about certain cars like the GTO. People say, "GTO is one of the best cars on the road." It just feels like I missed the first part of the sentance.

I love playing into this stereotype. I think that's my favorite part about owning one.
