Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
Re: Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
The government? I seriously doubt they give a rats *** about the name Camaro. Everything I've read said it was a CAW issue. The government knows GMs credit is good. They'll get their loan repaid regardless. That's all they care about. The CAW on the other hand would maybe benefit from such a restriction.

Current information of course I know is out there. But, as far as FUTURE plans for Kappa goes, information has been very tight, right along side future Camaro news has been tight. But, news has been making its way out there and if what I hear is true, Kappa just got awhole lot more interesting
Onto this subject, I made a post like this on C&G today when the author posted this there as well.
If this information is true, and I've got no reason to doubt it, then perhaps the agreement was made with the Canadian Government. Perhaps GM stated the Camaro would be made in Canada while the loan was being repaid. So, the Canadian Government may be the one with the "rights" to the name with GM.

I'll be making a post over there this weekend and probally will make the same post here. Waiting on some more info, then yank out the sensitive parts. Not about Kappa. Sorry.
Keeping things general and postable, GM does have other plans for Kappa, but it's that they won't come to pass till the end of the decade, if then.
Looking that far ahead, solid info is in fact hard to come by because GM normally operates 3 or so years ahead, meaning they are wraping up their 2008 lineup right about now, or within the next 6 months or so. anything beyound 2008 model year is still a "dream", so there won't be anything certain or bankable on it just yet.
I'm sure you heard by now the Ecotec isn't the only thing that's fitting in the Kappa, and that there is a sedan in that "dream" stage. But beyond that, outside of the Pontiac & Saturn sport cars, the trials of Chevy trying to get the Nomad, Opel & SAAB trying to get a version, and who's going to get the 4 passenger coupe, there really isn't all that much that's worth or capable of being posted. Drop me an e-mail, and let me know what you heard.
I'll stop by the site later (I finished work an hour ago, and I'm still here on the internet), but I most certainly will be able to shed some light on that Canada-Camaro situation.

I like how that sounds!!!
I know they (4th-gens) were already built here before, but Quebec is a lot further away from me than Oshawa (which is less than 10 minutes!
).....it's gonna be a real treat if the plans to build the Camaro here go through
. I might just have to buy one to support my local economy
.
Re: Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
Friggin awesome. How come we never thought of this before? Way to think outside the box!
Id like one in Arrest Me Red please? Id like my 08 to match my 87.
My lease is up in '08 GM...there better be a Z28 ready for me.

Re: Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
Do you really think a CAW officer would admit to basically holding the Camaro name hostage? I honestly wouldn't expect them to say anything different than what they did in that response. Not being a hater, just stating my opinion.
Good idea on contacting them though.

If that were the case, I just think he would've given a non-answer, commiting to nothing. The Prez, Buzz Hargrove passed my email on to him. I doubt he would have risked his status with the Prez by giving a completely wrong answer. If he was going to be purposefully inaccurate, I would have expected him to go the other direction and say it was restricted. Anyway, I took my best shot. At least I got an answer. It really shouldn't be that hard to find out the facts. Aren't those agreements public information for the union members? Oh, well.
Re: Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
Everyone who worked at that plant has either been relocated to other jobs or is on a GM pension. Also, GM has and is going to invest serious money into Oshawa and has expanded employment there.
Best as I can tell, the CAW is currently happy.

Re: Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
Did anyone happen to see RP's comment elsewhere regarding this thread? It sounds like that inspite of what some CAW official says in an e-mail to a total stranger, there ARE still issues with using the name.

It's a matter of intrepretation and reading what the gentleman wrote. CAREFULLY.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not flaming or anything like that. In fact, it was a great idea to contact the CAW. I didn't think of it, and I don't think anyone else on here has either, except maybe guinion.
I just don't think the CAW wants the general public to know that they could be possibly responsible for the Camaro not being available right now. Especially in light of the recent Canada/US relations (Iraq etc.) Americans don't want to by bullied, especially by a bunch of Canucks!!
Let me say it again, good job. Wish I'd thought of it!
