Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
After reading everywhere speculation that GM could not use the Camaro name because of the CAW agreement, or until the plant was replaced, etc,, etc ... , I decided to write to Buzz Hargrove, Pres of the CAW Union to try and see what it was all about. Today, I recieved a response from Peter Kennedy which states there is nothing prohibiting the use of the Camaro nameplate. Here is the text of the message .....
" Hi Geno : I am responding to your recent e-mail to Buzz Hargrove about a possible next generation Camaro. I have no insight as to whether or not there is any substance to the speculation you describe but I can tell you that there is nothing in our agreement with GM that would prohibit GM from resurrecting the Camaro nameplate. Obviously if it were to happen we would certainly argue for the jobs here in Canada. You've made the case as to the quality of vehicles produced here as well as anybody. Regards, Peter Kennedy, Assistant to the Secretary Treasurer, CAW - Canada "
Woo hoo ! The door is open! Please accept my order for a 2008 Camaro Z28!
Make mine Lemans Blue !
Well, what do you think?

Re: Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
Since the Ste Therese plant is gone and GM has lived up to their agreements, and GM owns the "Camaro" name, why would there be any restrictions?
BBC, I already did.

Re: Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
Probally the same reason they didn't talk about the Corvette till it debuted, and the reason they aren't talking about the 2006 Impala or Monte Carlo.
They typically don't talk about future products.

I'm sure we'll hear from GM when they are ready and have something concrete to announce.

Outside of seemingly monthly reports on the Solstice and what's going on with Cadillac (and to a small extent Buick), GM as official policy, is usually mum on future vehicles.
But a company as big as GM having as many employees as it does, is impossible to keep leak-free.

Tough to come by??! You're kidding, right???

Dude, we have chassis pictures, specifications & dimensions, performance estimates, the factory where it's going to be made, what's going to be made along side it, and it's introduction month. Hell, we even know it's standard tire size!
I know you're new here, but trust me, short of available colors and the date orders are being taken, there's nothing about Kappa that's tough to come by.
Perhaps you mean Zeta?
Re: Camaro nameplate NOT restricted !
By all means let me rephrase that quion02. It's Josh from C&G...what I meant to say is, future Kappa information is very tough to come by.
Current information of course I know is out there. But, as far as FUTURE plans for Kappa goes, information has been very tight, right along side future Camaro news has been tight. But, news has been making its way out there and if what I hear is true, Kappa just got awhole lot more interesting
Onto this subject, I made a post like this on C&G today when the author posted this there as well.
If this information is true, and I've got no reason to doubt it, then perhaps the agreement was made with the Canadian Government. Perhaps GM stated the Camaro would be made in Canada while the loan was being repaid. So, the Canadian Government may be the one with the "rights" to the name with GM.
