Remember...

SS = Tarted up Chevy...even FWD V6 Montes qualify for an SS logo

IROC = Ultimate Camaro...now I ask you, which name has more Camaro heritage???

I love my IROC.....but I think the name should be left in the past.

I think, (and have always thought), that it's a pretty silly series to name a Camaro after.

For a 5th gen....Chevy should just work on creating the visual impact that the original IROC-Z had.

Responding to an earlier post regarding dropping SLP...all I was suggesting was that an outsider from GM do the handiwork on the relatively small number of cars that would get the performance stuff. But now that you mention it, the GMMG cars are more in line w/ what I'm thinking for the Z/28 anyway. With their recent history of putting out fairly stout cars (Including their willingness to turn wrenches and open up engines, or even swap them!!!) they may be the way to go. Anyone who's seen the '02 ZL1 can see what I'm envisioning for a Z/28...maybe without the 600hp 427, but hey, an option?? Plus, they do brakes, some decent cosmetics, and chambered exhausts!

I've heard good things about that GMMG exhaust...Here's a link with some videos:

I can tell you right now that any1 that is thinking about that exhaust should get it. 4ths don't sound too good to me usually, especially LS1's, but I know a guy that has 1 of those really limited GMMG modified 35th Anniversary SS's (like 20something made) and it is the best sounding LS1 I think I've ever heard. Chambered exhaust sounds good. A dude on TGO has chambered exhaust on his modded 305 TPI and it's incredible, I'd like to hear it on a 350.

About the IROC name, it would be cool to have the name back in some ways but it probably would not in others. 1st of all the Camaro would have to be the car of choice again for the IROC races and they'd be paying for the rights to use the name once again. As you mentioned, those cars were a hit that really made and left an impact, and when some1 hears IROC they get a picture of an 85-90 IROC-Z28 and always will no matter what. It's 1 of those names that every1 knows and recognizes, like Z28. (pretty good for an upgrade model that was only here for 6 years ) Just like when people hear ZL1 they think of the 1st Gen ZL1 and not these "new" 1's. I doubt a new IROC would be half as cool as the originals and definetly not look as good, and that is the problem with bringing names and designations back. Examples are the new GTO and Impala SS. The IROC-Z is my favorite Camaro of all time, and if they put it on something I don't like, I would REALLY not appreciate that. I admit seeing that sticker/emblem on a new car could be cool, and it would be a REAL upgraded Z28 instead of an "SS" which is good, but critisizm and love for the real cars makes it a chance. As time goes by cars become legendary and that could mess up the IROC-Z's place so I'd rather see it stay away from a new car. But having an original IROC instead of a new 1 could actually do good so who knows. I say keep it Base, RS, SS, and Z28. SS not being necessary of course.

I proposed this in another thread:

Camaro sport coupe:
Engine: OHV 3.9L/3.8L V6 ~230-250hp. A4/M5
MSRP:$18-21,000

Camaro Rally Sport:
Engine: Turbo I5/ S/C V6 ~285-325hp. A4/M5
MSRP:$24-26,000

Camaro preferably *Z28* or SS:
Engine: LSx OHV V8 5.7L ~375-390hp. A4/M6
MSRP:$28-32k

Camaro Z28 or SS or (preferably) ZL1 as a regular production car:
Engine: LSx OHV or DOHC Turbo V8 5.7L/6.0L ~450hp floor (no less). M6 standard/A5 or new auto trans avalable at an extra cost
MSRP:$35-39,000

All cars weigh in near 3200lbs at most (excluding convertables)

Also use the 12 bolt out of a truck and modified for the top model, in my case the ZL1 and optional on the Z28.

Camaro SS should be some sort of appearance option maybe. I'd actually say leave it off though.

The prices I had in mind are of course just speculation. I'd actually believe they in reality would/will be higher by no more than $1-2k if this was a reality. I want to see this car succeed but be priced reasonably and competitively.

sounds like a perfect line up to me but by the time these cars are out GM should have a new 6 speed automatic. I say put the A6 in the RS and Z28/SS and give them tap-shift. sport coupe could get the A4 if that saves money.

I think they should give a little pride back to the RS. They should at least offer it with a V-8 option.

I would definetely be the first in line if they offered an IROC option again. But I think it should be rather limited with extra performance. Not ultra rare or expensive, but just a little special.

Don't be so hopeful for fancy stuff for the 5 gen. DOHC, Turbos/SC's ,VVT,fancy suspensions(like the Skyline), or AWD are out of the question. This would make the base price where the volume sales are important. Without these base models, we get no V8's.
For the most part, we gotta get the Vette's engines.

Base: 3.9 240-250 High Value? V6, Less than 17K 4L60.

Rally(e) Sport: 3.6 or 3.8 HF V6, less than 23K, if possible. Or they can recycle Ls1's(5.6), and make this the base V8's. T56/4L60.

SuperSport: Top of the line model. Uses the Corvette's base 6.0, though tuned so they won't compete amongst each other. 29K-34K. Vette-shared 6 speed, 4L65.

Z/28: Ultimate road/drag racer. Can use the ZO6's 6.4 H.O. V8. IRS, current front suspension is okay, but IRS is a must. Only comes with Vette-shared 6 speed.

Aftermarket? Some type of ZL1 car. Maybe Callaway or SLP, or even GMMG.

Oh yeah, make the option list VERY small.

Here's what I would like to see

Base: sc eco-tec 230h.p./ 3800 sc 280h.p. (optional)
starting in the high teens
ss: 3800 sc 280h.p./5.3 V8 300h.p. (optional)
starting in the low 20's
Z28: All the good s**t the Z06 has
under 40g's please
The LT would be a lux package for the SS/Base
The RS would be a functional appearance package for Z28/SS
The F41 would be a performance package for the base (wheels, gear, suspension, 10hp)

I don't think anyone will be confused because someone looking for a Camaro will know what they want and can afford.

SS should not have a V6, It can't go from top of the line to V6.

I'd like to see the SS and Z28 have the same powertrain but each have different look (hood, spoiler) and suspension.

maybe have the SS be like the trans am and have more standard options and leather standard, ie. more luxuray. Offer the Z28 in top of the line and stripper model with just about everything stripped but the performance stuff. Think Cobra R but with back seats.

I don't have a problem with SS having a supercharged V6 at all. The overwhelming majority of Camaro SS's came with intermediately powered smallblocks.....far from being scorchers, they were cruisers. Remember the SS morphed into the Type LT in the 2nd gen and then morphed once again into the Berlinetta.

Maybe it's time for Camaro SS to rediscover it's roots.

the new ones should have.....

base with RS as an option (3.8 as base power and 4.3 vortec for RS
Z28 LS1 powered
and bring back the IROC as the bad ***.....this should come with a 6 speed and LS6 (around 400hp) standard

that would be sweet!!!!

i would love to see the IROC comeback!!!!

i could do without seeing the SS, LT, or berlinetta
