Camaro, Hummer H4 likely
Camaro, Hummer H4 likely
GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said at the Geneva Motor Show that the Chevrolet Camaro Concept is likely to see production. While GM's board has yet to approve production of the car, The Car Connection quoted Lutz as saying: "We're all working on it as if it were an approved program." Meanwhile, Lutz also said the Hummer H4 is back on the table. The compact Jeep Wrangler-style vehicle was initially scrapped because the concept called for a completely unique architecture. Now, the company has decided to follow a more "derivative approach" — likely borrowing a platform and parts from other GM or Hummer vehicles. Lutz said, however, that the compact Hummer would still be a unique model. In October, we reported that GM was considering the Hummer H4 as a compact two-seater "dune buggy" focused on aggressive off-roading. “

Isn't the H3 already based on the Colorado/Canyon platform? It shoulda been on the trailblazer platform IMO. How much further can they step down?
Seems like just a shortened Colorado/Canyon platform wouldn't allow them enough cost differentiation. Where else are they going to cut costs and feature content? The H3 is already underpowered as is... if they use the same platform for the H4 they aren't going to be able to shed all that much weight and thus to equip it with any less motor would be asking for even more complaints of it being underpowered. Then again the original Hummer is slow as anything, but most consumers don't realize that and thus aren't willing to 'accept' being slow as part of owning a wannabe hummer.

I looked at H3 at the CIAS, and it was good size. Going to Trailblazer platform would make it bigger and closer to H2.
H3 is roomy, comfortable and large enough, IMO.

H3 should have definatly had a V8 or at least a I6 squeezed in there some how. If the H4 can come in at under 4000lbs. an upgraded I5 should be fine. Remember the Colorado Z71 crew is 4100lbs. and it does ok with 220HP. If the H4 is 3900lbs and comes with a 3.7L I5 or at least 240HP from the 3.5L then it should do OK.
As far as price goes, I bet the H3 has a nice amount of profit. I think they could do a GMT355 for Wrangler money.

Heck... I even come across people who think the H3 is still a real hummer, just a miniature version of the same thing. lol
GM needs to buy the rights to the Lamborghini name and start making Saturns that looks like Lamborghinis and are called Lamborghini Diablo 2s for the bargain price of 90 grand...
Re: Camaro, Hummer H4 likely
Susan Docherty (Head of Hummer) was on an episode of Autoline Detroit a few months ago (the episode repeated a few weeks ago). She said to look for an anouncement middle of this year about a new Hummer model. She hinted at a pickup. I'm hoping we see a production H3T that looks like the H3T concept, as well as an H4 (I'm greedy). I'd think the H3T would be pretty easy, basing it off the H3. Maybe Lutz stole the thumder with the H4 blurb, but I'm hoping we'll see and H3T as well.

Actually the H1 is powerful now, and not so slow anymore with the DuraMax Diesel on board. The DuraMax should be optional on the H2, and I really don't understand why GM hasn't added it yet.

Because it's on a half ton GMT-800 platform and there aren't any other half ton GM platform trucks or SUVs with the diesel so adaptation costs of the motor and appropriate trans would be higher than it would add in sales?
I dunno... just a guess.

As for H4 or Hx. I think a Hummer based on Theta could do quite well. Put it on the SWB Theta with quad coupe doors, ala T2X, and blocky styling with the 3.6 DI, a 6 speed auto or stick, and heavy duty offroad components, lift it a little and that truck would do very well.
