The platform allows manufacturers to produce engines with a maximum of six cylinders and 2.4 liter displacement. The ethanol-fueled engines will produce between 550 and 700 horsepower to suit the diverse set of tracks on which the IZOD IndyCar Series competes and will be turbocharged to allow for flexibility in power
In theory I guess it could be an "oversized" version of the IZOD engine in a production car - that isn't too far fetched. I just wonder how long such an engine would last for warranty purposes and what potential gains itd have in Fuel Economy and emissions (if any, over a well tuned and geared GenV)

I see the whole concept as silly - The GenV isn't even in a production vehicle yet. Beyond that I'd bet that instead of spending all that money on a crazy twin turbo V6 (that would also be likely heavier than a GenV, much less how much more expensive it'd be) GM would rather spend the money on interior quality components.

The Corvette simply isn't not an expensive enough of a vehicle for this. Guy has said in the past that the main reason the Corvette still uses a V8 is because the same basic design is used in the hundreds of thousands of trucks & SUVs.

Only way this would be made is if it has something to do with an upcoming truck powertrain. Remember..trucks subsize the powertrain development for GM high performance cars. There would be no LSX if not for the truck program. Not saying the article has a grain of truth, however the trucks are due for a serious bump in gas milage. Just pulling something out my ***..this would be a great way to still have a "v8" in a truck..but get V6 like efficiancy. A V8 with V6 like displacement could be how the small block chevy lives in the future. That or..it actually has something to do with Cadillac.

I have always subscribed to the "where there is smoke, there is fire" mantra.

It wouldn't be too difficult to make a block to house a LNF based V8 rotating assembly and two LNF based heads. It would have great torque and HP (500+ each) and be very dependable plus last a long time. Fuel mileage should be pretty decent. With the low end torque available it could also be used in trucks. No need for 10K rpms.
