C6 Goes 11.5 With Minor Bolt-Ons

I was in Wal-Mart last night, flipping through the latest issue of Popular Hot Rodding. They did a article on testing the C6 with some aftermarket bolt-ons. I didn't have time to read the whole article, but from what I read the base line test the C6 did a 13.1 in the quarter. Then they used a reprogramed CPU to get rid of the torque mangement, added headers and exhaust, but stock mufflers were put back on after testing reveiled they made more power than the aftermarket units. The end result was a 11.5 in the quarter. I just skimmed through the article, so if someone wants to add to it go ahead. But the LS2 seems pretty impressive once its not chained down.

I know this will sound silly now but back when the LS2 was made public a lot of people myself included said that it was restricted. GM knows it well and will use that to give it "yearly modification upgrades"

That said it was only a matter of time before bolt-ons yielded good results.. Boy I can't wait to see what more of them are capable of.

Actually, they were never able to reprogram the PCM because it was too new. To get rid of the torque management they had to create a "module" that they wouldn't show you because it was propietary to the company that bought the C6. The C6 M6 couldn't break into the 12's stock because the Torque Management always attempted to soften the shifts. Also it would bog like a **** at the line because it get up to somewhere around 220*F, and it made ample power at 181*F. They rigged up a 160* thermo and an electric fan switch, while creating a switch to get rid of the Torque management.

It ran 12.389@117.11 with only those 2 things. After the Long tube Kookss headers and Cat delete, 3.90's, ET streets, and Carteck heavy Duty output shaft, it ran 11.536 @ 118.23.

It was a good article.

yea, i picked up the mag for my dad...torque management should have been optional or deleted with z51, and a car this performance-minded shouldnt be running that far over 200*

Ya, that pollution stuff is just over-hyped garbage (is that a pun?). Why should we care about what we put into the air we breath?

New Gears and a new output shaft are minor bolt-ons?

Gears, yes (even though I'd pay someone to do it), output shaft, no. although output shaft doesn't ad any HP

Can anyone get a scan of this article? PM me if you have it.

Yeah, they went to launch the car at 4500 RPM and they shattered it. Also, I wouldn't consider gears a "major" bolt-on, IMO. The article never released 60 ft times on any run.

Also, I forgot to mention that they took the cats out and tested it to see what it would do, and it actually made 2 MORE HP with them ON. It doesn't mention it in the article but in the "Step by Step" thing after the article it shows 2 Hi-Flow cats and says that it made the horsepower with these than without them.

Some Dyno #'s

Stock
TQ: 353.9 @ 4300 RPM
HP: 350.3 @ 6100 RPM

Cartech Stage 1
TQ: 375.5 @ 4500 RPM
HP: 373.6 @ 5900 RPM

I would scan the article but I don't have a scanner. Any more questions? I'll just keep typing the info up.

ok, the point was, how is GM going to SELL you a C6 that doesn't pass emissions. legally. i don't think cats are mandetory for track use. so if you wanted to, nobody's stopping you from modding your C6 for "off road" use. If it doesn't have to be street-legal, GM could get away with using a 160* thermo and no cats too.

sounds about the same for the 05 Mustang, and they called that "minor bolt ons".

Dyno numbers for the C6
--------stock------"stage 1"
max hp 350@6100 374@5900
max tq 354@4300 376@4500

PHR claims that GM is "baiting" customers by giving car rags "wringers" to get people into showrooms. They ran a 13.1@109 with a stock Z51 C6.
