C&D tv this morning....

i dont know if the episode was a rerun or not, or if it was already mentioned by someone else....so sorry if its old....but...

car and driver did a segment on the GTO and the editor totally ripped it apart. for every aspect of the car the editor had a series of negative comments. From its "too stiff suspension" and "not adequate breaks" to its "slapstick rush to the US, and lack of options"

then after that, the same editor praised the toyota prius like it was the car of the gods. all 76 whopping horses of it.

i kno that this point has been brought up many times, but what is the need to nitpick american cars like that? it just really aggrevates me to no end. if the goat had a BMW badge or a toyota one, it would be perfect. "simple list of options to chose from, firm but comfortable suspension...yadda yadda yadda"

sorry for the gripe fest, as im sure it annoys all of u as well...

oo, one more thing... and this was the kicker.... and i quote "so GM killed the sweet camaro z28 which was quicker and cheaper than the GTO, and replaced it with a bloated one..." and u all know that if they were doin somethin on the camaro they would have ripped it apart as well.....yarrrrr

I saw too, and yes they would have - but apparently the new GTO sit's lower in their eyes.

They more or less voiced how I feel about that car.
I've never driven one so I can't say about the suspension or the brakes but - from a price/performance/style standpoint - the GTO falls flatter than the F-body.

Not an adaquate market replacement for the F-body.
I'm sure things will change in a few years.

If you want to see how bad Car and Driver rips on the Camaro when they would test one look here.

they would not have ripped the Z28,the 4th generation f-body was one of the better reviewed cars of the last decade, all the car mags loved it.
you can't really compare the GTO review with the prius.the pruis is remarkable for what it is,but as for the GTO in context of other cars like it,i agree with the reviewer, why kill the cheaper, faster camaro for this????it's fast and i'm sure it's a nice car,but the whole thing just seems half-assed.i would have preferred GM just keep the 4th gen around until they had a proper replacement.

They actually say some awfully nice things about it.

it still won the comparison, the car was not without flaws, but overall, most writers loved the car and i've got a ton of references to road tests if you don't believe me.a 10 year old Z28 still looks more exciting than the '04 GTO.

In the review, they should base thier opinions on the vehicles merit alone and not throw other crap in there. How it relates to the Camaro means absolutely nothing. These are the same people who think the SSR is a replacement for the Camaro. I just caught the end of that GTO spot but I was kinda pissed. Everyone always says what a good vehicle it is, as a Monaro or GTO. We all know it was not a car that was extensively reworked for Pontiac duty because of time constraints but would you rather not have the car here, because that is the alternative. The GTO will get the proper treatment but things have to fall into place first, and they will.

it relates because what do we not have?the f-body.what do we have now?the GTO.it's basically the same type of car,RWD 2+2 coupe.so now why did GM kill the car with 35 years of uninterrupted production with a huge fan base, huge aftermarket, great reviews(some mags called the last camaro the best ever)a successful competitor that with every new model guarantees the cover of nearly every magazine to promote the latest camaro vs mustang battle.the fact that the mustang WAS successful was reason enough to invest in a new f-body.everybody knew what a camaro or firebird was, just as everyone knows what a mustang or corvette is.how the hell do you just flush that kind of brand recognition?it's been 30 years since the last GTO,and they use an anonymous car to bring it back????on its worst year, the camaro would have sold more than the limited production GTO.i just don't understand GM.**** on them, they deserve all the bad press they get.it's amazing they can actually make a corvette as good as the C5 is.it relates to the camaro because GM killed one type of car to bring us the same type of car, only heavier, slower, uglier, and for more money.it's nonsense.

Most of us know the answers to your questons as they have been posted many times. It is not as easy or clearcut as it seems. You can't compare any coupe that GM puts out to an F-body and say "why do they have this and not a Camaro". The GTO is not an F-body and GM knows that, it's not like they are trying to pull a fast one on us. The GTO will be in addition to the Camaro. Just give it some time and I think the performance lineup will fall nicely into place. Just take away the comparisons to the F-body and I think that would change a lot of peoples minds.

This is rediculous...so Car and Driver doesn't like the car...SO WHAT!?!? How many times have you agreed with everything that any of the car rags have said about a particular car? It's no secret that for whatever reason Brock Yates hates the GTO. The car will sell all 18,000 copies....Chevy probably sold 18,000 Camaro SS's in 2002 and that was with dated styling on an old chassis with an interior not half as nice for the same price.
