Re: Buy a brand new '69 Camaro!

Heck, my 1969 RS/SS already has a 383 LT4 (470hp 465Tq), 6 speed, 4 wheel discs (C4 & F4), tubular control arms, coil-overs, racing seats, longtubes and true duals, 17"x9" wheels w/ GS-D3 Goodyears, bigger sway bars, quick ratio PS, aluminum radiator, custom S.S. fuel tank w/ internal hi-flow fuel pump, etc.....so who needs a new one?

I am SHOCKED that they can sell it for ONLY $40k though....I was considering building one of these myself, but guessed it would be waaaay more expensive....IF you bought all new parts.

It won't hurt the originals....can't duplicate matching numbers (well us experts will never be fooled).....in fact it'll bring more attention (as if that's needed) to them and may even increase the value of "original" cars.

I think it's cool!

i think it will hurt the value of original cars. but to be honest, i dont care. My dad has always wanted a '69Z, and its getting frustrating to him, because they are appreciating faster than he can set money aside for one. Knowing my dad though, he'd want the real thing... a reproduction/clone wouldnt be worth it to him.

So what kind of engine is this car going to come with? Anybody Know?

I think that you get to choose.

The Hot Rod project car will get one of the new Ramjet ZL1's.

Maybe wait for the '67/'68 sheetmetal. Graft on the front and rear Sigma suspension modules. Drop in a killer 6.x liter, gen IV smallblock and T-56, huge Brembo brakes and a verrrry agressive wheel/tire combo. In black, please.
Please don't.

Why not just find a clean REAL 67/8 and have Wayne Due perform his magic on it? Its basically the same thing.

The idea of a complete 1st gen Camaro body being available is completely WRONG! The first people to take advantage of this will be the same people who are buying up Yenko & COPO VIN/Trim tags on eBay for $1000+.

The next thing you know, we will be seeing "rust free" and "original" cars that were wrecked long ago being resurrected and sold to unsuspecting dolts with money to burn for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR THE HOBBY!

A REAL '69 Z-28 should cost him less than $40K.

While true Doug, there are many people out there that don't know how to tell a real car from a fake. Just as there are many people out there that are good at building "retagged" cars.

Its not experts I'm worried about. It's the unsuspecting masses with money to burn.

If I wanted a spotless old Camaro to modify, then this would be a great route to take. I also don't have a problem with someone buying one of these and making a replica of an original, as long as they don't pass it off as an original. The problem is you know some people would.

Re: Buy a brand new '69 Camaro!

I must say I am torn on this subject. Dont get me wrong I love 1st gen Camaros/Firebirds and I respect the ones that are without a doubt matching numbers, etc. I do see some people taking these new bodies and adding the vin/trim tags to these bodies and calling them originals but at the same time it will also make it easier for someone without a ton of money to buy a body (without rust/damage etc) to get started in the hobby. There does need to by a permanent mark on the new bodies to be able to identify them as what they are reproductions of the originals. In short, I think it will be good for the hobby and at the same time hurt some on the value of the originals but not by much.

Will you be able to bolt up these 69 Camaro bodies up to a Chassis of your choosing or would it have to be one from a early camaro?

Re: Buy a brand new '69 Camaro!

This kind of reminds me of what Nissan did a few years back with the selling of fully restored original Z cars from the factory. If I remember correctly, it wasn't a huge success. The fact that this happened right around the time that they stopped bringing the 300ZX to America probably didn't help too much. It would be pretty neat if manufactorers started selling fully restored original cars again. Maybe Nissan was on to something, but the timing was just off.

The body pictured in Hot Rod, is a bare body, bolted to a Camaro frame with no suspension components. So you could build it from there.

I like the idea of making a 69 Camaro handle like a C6 Vette with adding the suspension pieces and stuff to the frame that would be one bad ride.

Re: Buy a brand new '69 Camaro!

Well considering the first gen is what got me into cars and is still one of my favorite cars ever built I am excited... The good thing is there will be more first gens out there and people can modify the crap out of them without upsetting the purists. I'd much rather buy one of these new first gens and build it myself anyway then buying a beat up old rust bucket and cutting chunks out of it at will to fit everything.

I don't think the value of genuine Cobra's have gone down too much even though there are plenty of reproduction cars out there...
