Agreed.

I've said that for a long time.

Most car buyer have no clue that Ransom Olds is the reason for the name... they just heard "Old"

Here here. And while we discuss overhyped foreign brands I really cannot think of one moreso than Lexus itself. The styling is either uninteresting or hideous (SC 430 and their large FWD sedan), with maybe the exception of the IS 300. I don't feel the interiors are very remarkable either. The dash shapes and materials, at least on a visual level, don't distinguish it from a common Toyota. Blah.

It would be nice to see Caddy become the pioneer it once was (imo the most important auto company of the 19th century bar-none), but I'll take baby steps over one giant leap for GM kind.

I always wonder what aould have happened if they changed Oldsmobile's name to Auroua like they wanted. Sad thing Is Old's was a pioneer in the 60's and 70's....

Oldsmobile was supposed to be Aurora? How pointless of a name change would that have been. GM has to buckle down and start making some cars that are a little more suited to the general public, just so they can stay afloat...so instead there is the Buick has a car named aurora, right?

No... the way it went was after Olds introduced the 1995 Aurora to much success, GM considered changing the OLDSMOBILE name to AURORA (the divsion name)... This idea, while drastic, actually had some merit... it would have taken the "OLD" out of OLDsmobile and possibly saved the marque...

They did not do that, but did redo the Olds logo not too far after.

They should have changed "old" to "new" Then we would have had newsmobile and all the stupid young Americans would have bought them by the millions. From what I know Oldsmobile had some of the best quality in any GM car. It didnt sell because of the name? If a name is all it takes then we should change all GM brand names. Chevy can be Swell Cars and Pontiac could be Neat'o INC...... You get the picture.

The car was named after its founder, Ransom Olds.

I got it! Call it the Ransomobile instead!

On second thought, it would probably become the choice get-away car of kidnappers and thieves everywhere.

I guess there wasn't much we could do with ol' Ransom's name or his cars after all.
