talk of 5th gen, El Camino, and Chevelle SS

from auto.com

http://www.auto.com/industry/iwira29_20030129.htm

Auto Horizon, the Automotive Intelligence Internet newsletter, says the concept Buick (for now dubbed Centurion) shown by General Motors at a meeting in Pebble Beach, Calif., last month and destined for next year's auto-show circuit, may become reality in 2006 as a vehicle aimed at youth and positioned below the current Rendezvous.

(Others, however, such as Global Insider, an industry newsletter out of Detroit, says Centurion reflects the styling cues of the next-generation Rendezvous for '06 or '07.)

Also, the Malibu Maxx hatchback shown at Pebble Beach is based on the same Epsilon platform that will be shared by the '04 Chevy Malibu and '05 Pontiac Grand Am sedans, plus an upcoming Saturn Transponder hybrid featuring a 3.2-liter V-6 gasoline engine teamed with two electric motors to deliver a combined 250 horsepower and 35 m.p.g. fuel economy.

The supercharged Pontiac G6 concept sedan shown at Pebble Beach is said to hint at the styling of the '04 Pontiac Grand Prix and redesigned '05 Grand Am, which comes out as a sedan first followed in '06 by coupe and convertible. The new Grand Am is expected to have a supercharged 3.2-liter V-6 and optional all-wheel-drive.

We've reported that Chevy wants to bring back a Chevelle SS. Auto Horizon says that '06 could be the date and that it might be joined by a return of the El Camino car/truck as well as a revived Camaro.

And Toyota may drop the slow-selling MR2 Spyder after '05, just before a redesigned Celica comes out for '06, and may bring out a new sports car inspired by its 1967 model 2000GT that could come off the Lexus IS300 platform -- perhaps in '04.

I am for both Ideas. The Chevelle and the El Camino. The Chevelle would be the coolest.

If Chicago is going to be the SS-orgy we've heard about, then if that catches on as Chevy's new thing, then I guess I could picture an 06 Chevelle SS as a possibility; problem is, I can't really imagine a Chevelle base model, i.e. non-SS, in today's market

Well, just think, we are now in the 2004 season, and these things are just 24 months away.

Spy pictures within a year?

Here's a mock-up of what the El Camino could look like. Let me know what you think.

Cool, except for the little circles in the headlights and rims. How do people do those things in PhotoShop?!

Eeeeeeeeellllll Camiiiiiino.....
I really think it would be a hit in today's market or crossover, half 'n half vehicles. The thing makes me think of my grandfather's not quite stock 1970 Elky that my family is going to inherit within a year. Ah such pleasurable thoughts...

Why do people continuously whine about 2006 being so far away?

GET OVER IT!

I wouldn't buy a new Elky. Just the old ones.

I know that... I was just pointing out that the little round lights weren't photo-shopped. Nice job BTW... Is photoshop easy to do? I just got it but haven't done the install yet. I have experience in CAD/CAM and digital video so I figured it shouldn't be too difficult.

BTW guys, I posted part of an article back in Nov or Dec??? on the the El Camino and Chevelle SS. I seem to remember a date of '04 or '05 though for the Chevelle SS. Check the archives for Chevelle SS and my name.
