bring back "Z28" as a factory option code
I just imagined this..
let say GM builds a relatively light, RWD V8 2+2 coupe, but calls it a different name.. NOT a Camaro..
and while you actually order one thru the dealer and you go thru the factory option codes, there would be a "hidden" (not publicly advertized) Z28 option code, for various performance upgrades (various coolers and supporting hardware for track duty, firmer suspension, maybe different heads and cam, better wheels, etc) thats combined with a lighter/cheaper interior/accessory trim..
No badges, trims, stickers or anything thats just extra fluff.. Just pure business..
or would that be too retro?

every model has either had no Z-code or has had its own unique code.. seems they went wild in the 80s, with Z24 cavalier, Z34 lumina, Z71 trucks (still around), etc. The Z-codes have always been unique to each model (excluding arcane ones like Z49) and I don't see a reason to start sharing now..
I remember hearing how so FEW people even knew they still made the Camaro (when they did) even as recently as 2000 or 01.. so, having something like a "Z28 Malibu" in the future would fragment the already sparse enthusiasm the 4th gen left behind.
"yeah I got a new Z28"
"wow.. camaro? cool"
"no, no.. malibu Z28"
"huh?"
