Bricklin Reveals Hardtop Convertible For Under $19K

Shanghai April 20, 2005; The new Chery/Visionary Vehicles retractable hardtop convertible with senior executives from Chery Automobile, Pinninfarina, and Visionary Vehicles in Turin, Italy. Executives in the picture (from left to right) are:

Ken Okuyama Creative Director, Pininfarina S.p.A.

Yin Tongyao President, Chery Automobile Co.

Andrea Pininfarina Managing Director, Pininfarina S.p.A.

Malcolm Bricklin CEO, Visionary Vehicles

Lorenzo Ramaceotti Executive Vice President of Design, Pininfarina S.P.A.

Zhan Xia Li Part Secretary General of Wuhu City and Founder of Chery Automobile Company

Designed by the renown Italian firm Pininfarina, the Visionary/Chery retractable hardtop convertible will first be on display at the Shanghai Auto Show. The convertible will be among the first Chery-made vehicles to arrive in the United States in 2007, and have a sticker price less than $ 19,000.

Visionary Vehicles LLC, an international automobile import/distribution company founded by Malcolm Bricklin, has announced a historic agreement with Chery Automobile Company, to import a totally new line of luxury vehicles at exceptionally low prices to North America. These vehicles are designed to reinvent the price of luxury and will be priced between 30 and 40% below comparable models currently sold in the marketplace and will have a warranty equal to or better than the best in the industry.

Looks alright, but we'll have to see how good it really is when it debuts. Convertible hardtop for under 19k? Wow, that's a first. And i thought the G6 hardtop convertible coming in under 30k was revolutionary.

I'm also looking forward to the Twin-turbo v8 sports coupe (BMW 6-series fighter supposadly) they promised for under 21k in one of the older articles i posted earlier this year. Their pricing is so low it is hard to believe, but if they can pull it off without sacrificing quality, more power to them. Maybe that'll forced competitors to drop their prices too.

Pics.

Is this the same company I was reading about not too long ago that was being sued by Toyota for reverse engineering and essentially blatantly copying a Rav4?

It will be intersting no doubt to see how this plays out....

Yes also be sued by GM for copying a small Chevy car in China as well.

Now, is it just me or does that car look a whole lot like a Toyota Solara from the side?

I always wondered what would happen if a Cougar, Eclipse, and a G6 were to procreate...
