As much as I hate to see that drifting will find a niche in the racing scene. It's come from Japan to Europe and is starting to get recognition here as well.

With the ease of hitting the gas and sending a RWD car into a slide, why shouldn't an American car maker hit the sport?

PONTIAC: THE AMERICAN BMW!

Well, drifting seems to be taking off here. But I find that those who are into it are generally younger. Younger enough, where the GTO would be unattainable. I can see GM wanting some sort of profile in this budding sport......but is the "grown up" GTO the best car to choose for that?

This 'sport' seems so 'ricey' to me....

I mean, 'racing' for the sake of fishtailing?

Anyway, ironic that you need RWD to do a 'ricey' sport...

Oh, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Australian SuperCar series......it's what NASCAR ought to be.

I just hate this phony crap.....WTF is the point?!? Hell, we've had dirt track racing for years, Steve Kinser would own these posers....LOL!

Yep drifting is ghey in all its glory. Talk about ricing out a GTO

Why didnt they just wait a year and then enter a Solstice or Curve into this series if they REALLY wanted to be part of it. Good recognition to younger people (supposedly), fresh new name no one has heard of, and attainable to us young'ns.

Oh well, hopefully the GTO's success in road racing will overshadow this crap.

sorry for the rant, i just cant stand drifting...

What is the problem with that?

The car looks nice. At least it is a stock body car, unlike NASCAR

Well, at least you can say one is done with actual cars, and involves more skill than driving around an oval without crashing!

For me, personally, it's the 'sport' and not the car so much...

While having an entire event just for the sake of drifting seems useless to me ( ), maybe this will get some younger people's attention and draw them toward GM more. It would be kind of cool to see the GTO beating up on the competition in any event, IMO. Personally, I think there should be a racing series that is more like what Nascar used to be. You know, paint "350 hp" on the hood of a GTO, cut off the exhaust and take it to the track to race some Tauruses.

I don't know much about drifting, I think the car looks good (other that the spoiler) I wouldn't call the paint job rice, NASCAR has crazier paint jobs that that.

If you squint just a little, the GTO in those pics looks remarkably like the riced-out Civic I saw driving to work this morning.

Hurl.

So Sprint Cars, NASCAR, modifieds, IRL, BUSCH etc..don't take any skill huh? Riiiiight.... let me know when you want to go racing...

I like the road courses better, but is ignorant to say these guys aren't great drivers and don't have skill.

Besides, everything on a NASCAR car is for a reason and used ....why does a car need ground effects and a big ol' **** for a "sport" that doesn't reach hghway speeds?

Figure skating of autosports......
