Bolt Ons Offered as Dealer Add-Ons?

This is an idea I have had (and probably many others). Would Chevrolet consider having bolt on power adders (cam, heads, Lt Headers, Cat backs etc) available for dealer install? Would be nice to have these goodies available, from the get go, and backed by a GM powertrain warranty. I know in the musclecar days you could get some of these options, would it work now? I for one would be interested.

take the camaro for instance(5th gen), if it's anything like the engine compartments of todays cars i doubt it(i'm a mechanic and my biggest complaint on new cars is the lack of room). it would take over a day to swap cams and then you get into tuning the comp for the new parts. don't get me wrong, i would love to see a return to the glory days when you could get your car modded before you pick it up, but i doubt it will happen.

There is gonna be staged packages for the cobalts from rims that are already available right on into performance parts ( much of which isnt avail. yet ) . All backed by OEM warranty if installed by the dealer .

The performance parts availability possibly may trickle into other models .

I think it is up to the actual dealership, and not GM. There is a Ford dealership I was told by a friend who actually will install superchargers on the Mustangs, but the name of it escapes me at the momemt. I don't think enough dealerships would participate in this though, and even if they did, I could see alot of them screwing up some of the more difficult installs (especially gears.)

Re: Bolt Ons Offered as Dealer Add-Ons?

we have a ford dealership by me that caters to hot rodders as far as superchargers and the likes go. they do good work and back it with their own warranty. i would love to see this happen at more places, but i think alot of dealerships won't get involved. alot of techs complain about just putting in replacement parts, imagine if they had to modify something. just speaking from experience(i have a lot of dealership employed friends). like i said before, newer cars aren't all mod friendly as far as space goes. hopefully at least the next gen f-body will be more like the gen 3s than the gen 4s as far as engine room goes.

There's a dealership near me, that I will not mention their name cause I really don't like them, that do sell some vehicle (especiall Avalanches) with bolt ons and such.. For example they had an SS badged Avalanche (in the same font and placement where Z71 would go).. It was simply, exhaust tip, 22" tired, chrome grilled Av.. They might have lowered it a bit.. or not.

The shop there will do anything. but may not necessairly warantee it .

It looks like you basically pay almost 2x on the extra parts and labor for them to install it and warantee it.. cause baically they are covering themselves if they have to replace it..

Haven't you guys seen the Mr. Goodwrench commerical where the janitor is telling the reporter, "Mr. Goodwrench installed a supercharger on my car"?

Some dealers already do "bolt-ons" and have been doing so for ages.

Is a head and cam swap really a bolt on? I think a lot of dealers would do a cat back, but not too many would be willing to go as far as a cam.

Emissions are the issue.

If the dealer does the work, it can't effect emissions equipment or they'd get hammered by the Feds... so a re-tune that is not emissions certified would be out of the question.

The way around it is to have GM do the development and certify it themselves. Then the dealer installs an emissions certified package.
