Probably because it's the world's most infamous test track....everyone tests there, so if you're developing a car like the Z06 or "Blue Devil", you want to test its times against what your competition has run there so you can tweak it going forward.

I sure hope that whoever that guy was, he feels it was worth losing his job over to get a few pics up on the net.

Maybe he was referring to his GTO in his sig.. And no I am not a GTO hater.. I've just heard so many times how a freakin' GTO looks like a full size Grand Am..

I'm an aircraft mechanic for a major wet-lease cargo operator... If I had a camera phone, there would be quite a few more threads about prototype and pre-release spy shots, with precisely zero chance of me getting in trouble.

Once the shipper (GM in this case,) hands off the cargo to the freight forwarder, they have very little control over it. I'm sure they asked the freight forwarder to be discreet, and will probably get their money back on the shipment, but theres next to nothing they can do to the individual who takes the photo, unless they made ALL their employees, and ALL the airline's employees sign NDAs. Doubtful at best. Theres just so many people running around the warehouse and ramp area, that I'm amazed this doesn't happen more often.

Its a mixture of reasons. the ring has many different types of surfaces, a huge amount of turns, long *** straight away, etc. Its hard to find that level of variety at other tracks.

Anyone else wonder why a test mule is painted "look-at-me" red? Where's the standard dingy white or black? I'm not doubting what it is or may be, but that aspect seems to defy logic somewhat.

Haven't you heard? All Corvettes are red.

It's just a powertrain mule....the actual car wil probably look quite a bit different.

The dingy white or black are used when they're trying to conceal body details and stuff like that for a new car. The test mule appears to be a regular Z06. Since that's already available, there's no reason to hide it.

I doubt that. Jail, for what? It's not illegal unless you where trustpassing, or had signed a NDA etc.

I would think something along the lines of "theft of intellectual property".
