Bet you didn't know this.....(GM's stockholder meeting thread)

Bob Lutz's contract at GM expired last December!

There is an attempt going on to split the CEO and COB positions, both currently heald by Rick Wagoner.

There's also an attempt to recoup executive bonuses if targets aren't met.

....to be continued.

Jerry York involved in this?

As it should be at every company, including Delphi.

When you cook the books to appear to be more profitable than you are, the performance bonuses given out should be paid back, but GM doesnt want to lose any critical talent.

Then there's no problem; since people with "critical talent" don't need to cook the books.

I read in Detroit News' Auto Insider that a shareholder that called for Wagoners firing is now calling for his indictment.

"One shareholder at the Hotel du Pont who called for Wagoner's firing last year said Tuesday he should be indicted because of GM's accounting issues."

So ya think BM is behind that statement?

Lutz is probably the biggest reason why GM isn't dead...that guy's a HARD worker and seems to almost as smart as Iaocca.

There are MANY things that cause me to lay awake at night staring wide-eyed at the ceiling.........................

...................or causing me to log on here at ridiculous/wee hours of the morning. That is but one.

(not that I have any say in these things........)

Let me also say: I do not agree with everything Bob Lutz does or says............

........BUT........he's done an incredible job of affecting change at GM ...change that should have been done 20 years before. I often think to myself -- 'what would have happened had we hired this man in 1990?' I suspect we'd be a much stronger company today. So while I don't agree with everything he says or does, I agree with most of it.........and I have nothing but HUGE amounts of respect for him....and that's something I can't say about many others.

Oh - and yes, it was BM that made that assinine comment.

(..........can you say 'narcissist?')

Accounting issues?
From what I have been reading, and please correct me if I'm wrong, GM has been underestimating their future performance lately. I've the comments of Wagoner/Lutz, and neither will say "I guarantee a profit by the end of this quarter" or anything like that.

You know, at first I thought that BM could be okay, even with his completely different point of view on the management at GM. Now I think he's an asshat.

It seems to me, if Lutz was hired in 1990, the fbodies probably would have gotten the money they needed to keep them going. The Camaro might never have gone on it's vacation, and the Firebird would still be alive today.

I'm quite certain you're right.

I blame two people for the hiatus.

At my office we have a few big bosses that I feel the same way about. Around here we say, "that's why they pay him the big bucks!"
