I rather see the money spent on making a next gen model of the kappa that has more trunk space when the top is down.

Maybe I missed it, but could the "Stingray" be a hardtop instead of a convertible? We know the fixed roof Kappa is coming soon. This is apparently coming soon. Are the two connected?

Wouldn't be the first 6 cylinder in a vette.

It is not gonna be called "Corvette."

Maybe Chevy decided to make that fast, cheap stipper car I've been wanting.

Mark me down for the "hope not" section.
V6 Kappa, make it a hard top vert, throw on some A&S body pannels, plant the 2.0T motor standard, 3.6 DI and then a Turbo 3.6 for the V, back it with a 5 spd auto for the first 2, 6spd auto fro the V, 6spd manual for all 3 levels, and call it a SLR.

Not going to happen. Kappa has new product coming, but this is NOT it.

No way, no how.

After Lutz and Wilburn gave us the Camaro, why not sit back and ask yourself this: Do you REALLY think Lutz would let his baby, Kappa be whored around like THIS? I think not.

This is so far off the charts.

I agree. Willmington is already at max capacity. Without another Kappa assembly line they will not produce this car. Pontiac, Saturn, and Opel have already spoken for every Kappa vehicle. My guess is the Sky was mistaken for a baby Vette since the look is very similar. There is talk of the current Kappa cars getting a V6 in the future. This could easily add confusion to this story.

Duh!

A V6 powered Chevy badged Kappa based car called Sting Ray is as much a Corvette as the 2007 Chevy Malibu is a Chevelle.

The name alone does not make it a Vette.

OK...let me play devil's advocate

Why couldn't the Kappa chassis spawn a Corvette. The chassis are very similar in design and function. The Kappa chassis looks like a slightly smaller Y-body. There is no really good reason the Kappa chassis could not be used for an entry level V6 Corvette.

Wilmington HAS the extra capacity for more Kappas to be built...something like 125,000 more

Lets say Chevy makes this kappa Corvette with a design very similar to the 2004 Nomad concept (I'm not talking wagon, the front end) Very C1 in style. With a HF V6 it would be a very decent performer with killer looks and I would assume a profitable car if priced around 30k.

Target market...

Corvette owners who want an extra toy that it very much an attention getter

Baby boomers who grew up with the C1

Those who don't have enough to get a new vette but could afford this.

Entry level vette =

Re: Bastardization at its finest...V6 Vette

Im glad because I was thinking I shouldn't dignify it with a response.

It makes my head hurt to think that as soon as the lineup actually starts to get manageable they would create the overpriced underpowerd and overweight competitor to Camaro, Corvette, Solstice and Sky that no one asked for.

Its literally making my head hurt.

What does GM have to really compete with the higher end roadster (BMW Z4/M, 350Z, S2000)???

Certainly you don't expect the SKY to do that. That is a hole in GM's line up that can easily filled by this car. How many people do you think are going to cross-shop the Saturn SKY and a BMW Z4??? More would do that for a Corvette than a Saturn.

Also, How would this be a competitor to the Camaro???
Two completly different markets and demographics.
