The Equinox story also underlines a $2,000 increase in GM’s overall average transaction prices. The redesigned-for-’10 CUV is selling for about $26,500, which is $4,800 higher than the ’09 Equinox and up to $3,900 more than competitive models, says Chevrolet General Manager Jim Campbell.

The Equinox’s styling, content and perceived value is “really resonating” with consumers, Campbell says during today’s briefing.

Notably, Equinox buyers are opting for a 4-cyl. engine more than 80% of the time, he adds.

The take-rate on the Terrain is 60:40 in favor of the 6-cyl. engine choice.
Average transaction price is up almost $5k and that is with most people opting for the cheaper 4cyl.

It is interesting that 80% of buyers are going for the 4cyl. in the Equinox and in the GMC Terrain 60% are going for the V6.

I think we are going to get a 1LT AWD 4cyl. with a sunroof next year, so it would be a 2012 model. When I priced out what I wanted in a '10 it was ~$27,000 msrp.

How's the gender split between the two? If more men go for the Terrain that could explain the V6 sales.

I'm wondering what the real world fuel economy is on the 4-cyl models. I know they have great EPA highway ratings, but a few co-workers who have driven them for extended periods of time have not been getting highway averages near the 32mpg mark.

I'm hoping that's the exception and not the rule. I'd hate for people to be spending more and expecting higher F.E. and then not getting it.

Search the internet, that has been a complaint for a few people and magazine testing has noted that real world mileage doesn't seem to match up to the EPA rating. Disappointing.

The AWD model is rated at 29mpg. People seem to be hitting that no problem. 32 in the FWD seems to be a little harder. FWIW GM originally expected the EPA number to be 30mpg.

It also depends on what speed the driver is going, I can get 30mpg in our 2007 at 55mph or 23mpg at 80mph.

4cyl. is actually cheaper than the V6 only in 2009.

Motorweek got 29.3 MPG in their mixed driving loop. 15% better than a comparable 2.4 Kia Sorrento.
