Aveo SS...and I'm not kidding this time.
Here's another pic.

Every review on this car has been positive. Okay, I'll admit, it looks kinda funky, but if someone can go and buy a decent little pocket rocket for $11 or $12 K, well.........

“I think we have a very innovative and creative specialty-vehicle team that’s been having a ball with Aveo. They find it a great canvas to work from,” Brooks says, adding an SS performance version is a possibility.

GM was setting up a dealer ride and drive during our last autocross. They had a couple of Aveo's there. Surprisingly, there were positive comments from the "tuner" crowd about them. To me they look like a clone of the Echo, and I think GM needs to step up with the 2 door as well.
At 103 HP, it has 13 more than my '83 Cavalier had, and an extra gear in to manual transmission. With the MP3 player and sunroof this just might be the grocery getter for my wife that allows me to burn up some GM card earnings.
...and I wouldn't feel bad about driving it in snow, salt and gravel.
Oh, and if they throw on a blower, 17 inch wheels, trick seats and shifter and decide to add an SS badge ... wouldn't bother me ...I still have a roll of floss.

Gee what else can we find to put an SS badge on? Hey I know - how about a Whirlpool Calpyso SS Washer and Dryer set!! Woooo!
Please GM, stop the madness now! Cars that excite the senses about as much as a domestic appliance should not be carrying badges like SS and whatnot. Stop it now GM - you're sick, get help.
BTW - feel free to call it the Aveo Type-R or something equally 2Fast 2Furious, but leave the classic names for the real screamers.

If they can keep the price within a couple of grand of the base model........I'll bet, after SEMA, it's on the cover of every "tuner" mag in the country.
I know alot of you guys don't want to hear this.....but I think it could be very popular.

I think what people are upset about and I am too, is the use of SS on Aveo. While many here argue what is tops SS or Z models you can't a argue that both have history and heritage. And thus mean something. To slap SS on this Aveo is kinda hurting the value of the SS designation. Its not that a Aveo SS wouldn't be cool or worthy its just not what SS in the Chevy American Power Performance and fun sence means. Look at the Chevy SS concept car or the SSR they were trying to capture the essence of SS from the days when those letters followed legandary 60's names like Chevelle, Impala, Camaro, and Malibu.
Ya know, I also think there's potential with this car. It has a pretty good looking interior, and as far as the exterior, though I don't like it much, I also would have told you that the box-like Scion would fail instead of the reasonably decent one. So perhaps I'm not as in tune with lower budget cars as I think.
If Chevy can make the car as fun to drive as the Mini seems to be it could be good for the SS name in a twisted sort of way by familiarizing younger buyers to the SS name.
I'm not going to stress over the SS name anymore, and neither should anyone else. There is an 2 1/2 ton, AWD, extended cab, nearly Corvette priced, luxury pickup wearing the SS name Chevrolet is pushing, and soon it will be on full size & mid-size AWD SUVs.
Why get upset about the SS name on the Aveo. At least it's a car with a turbocharger!

.On a positive note, I think the car [Aveo] looks ok for what it is though

As far as using the SS name....hey look, Chevy is gonna market the **** out of it....apparently on virtually all it's lines....and it just may turn out to be a great strategy.
I'll tell you something....if an Aveo SS comes with 140-150 hp, 15 or 16" wheels, is a blast to drive.....and costs no more than 12-13 grand...I see no prob with calling it an SS.
Maybe it's just me, but I think a lot of you guys are putting Aveo on the 'tuner' guy's radar, and I don't think it'll be there at all.
How many 'tuner' guys are looking at Toyota Echos?! Not a whole lot.
They go for the Civic type car, which should make Cobalt the car of choice in the Chevy line up for 'tuning'.

A Cobalt SS will probably cost about $20K.
The key to Aveo SS is the price. If they're going to be asking mid to high teens for it....forget it, I think it'll flop.

We're just guessing on price but, someone could pick up a NEW Aveo SS, complete with supercharger, for less than a used Civic.

Also, it's certainly not like the majority of 'tuned' Civics are Si models or whatever the top model is, anyway... they mostly take base Civics and put the 'mods' on them.... so would an "SS" version of Aveo even matter that much to the 'tuner'?
Wouldn't they just buy a base Cobalt and go from there?

Getting back to the Civic comparison.....
A cheaper and new blown Aveo may have a bigger draw than a more expensive and used base Civic.
On the Aveo, you've already got the supercharger! Add a pulley, exhaust, and intake.......and you've just added a bunch of ponies.
Those same ponies would probably cost thousands to mod on a Civic.

Eh, just playing devil's advocate here... as wierd as this may sound, I think an Aveo might be too 'dorky' looking for these guys.
