Avalanche production pushed up almost 6 months

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../60206002/1041

According to the article this is the GMT-900 schedules

Full-sized schedule
GM's introduction timetable for full-sized SUVs

Chevrolet Tahoe: Early January

GMC Yukon: Late January

Cadillac Escalade: Late January

Chevrolet Suburban: April

Chevrolet Avalanche: April

Cadillac Escalade ESV: April

GMC Yukon XL: April

Cadillac EXT: April
Originally it was
Tahoe Q1
Suburban Q2
Avalanche Q3
Silverado Q4

Is there a chance the Silverados will be coming out sooner?

That's pretty crazy. I am surprised they are moved up so much. I'm not sure about the Silverado. Can they have the capacity to produce so many 900's in such a short period of time? With adding the Silverado, they about double the number of units that need to be produced. I would like to see the New Silverado out as soon as possible.

Interesting... why do you think they did that?

Is it because of Toyota's new full size launch and they want to get all their stuff out before Toyota does so that they can kinda steal some of the lime light?

Or were they just giving conservative estimates with the possibility in mind that the initial 900 launch could have some issues that need to be corrected before they launch anymore 900 vehicles?

That may be part of it, but I think the fact that both Dodge and Ford have had their new trucks out for some time now (sheez, Dodge has even freshened theirs already!) is making the GMT-800's look antiquated...

Also, I imagine it is expensive to keep some GMT-800's in production at the same time GMT-900's are being produced.

Add to that the fact that the 900's are apparently coming out very smoothly so fast... and it makes sense to accelerate the roll-out of the new, and the shut down of the old.

Completely expected.

Remember last year when GM put everything on hold to speed up the GMT-900 and to insure it had a glitch-free introduction?

The Avalanche looks really good. These new Chevy 900s are going to be big sellers. I wonder if the Silverado will have any chrome on the bumpers? Anyone know?

Only that GM will be bringing it out as quickly as it can. Whatever the early intro dates were, discard them.

BTW: The GMT-900s are supposedly cheaper to assemble than the current versions, so this isn't only about beating the competition.

GM has all kinds of plants scattered around making large trucks.

To perhaps over simplifiy things, GM is going from plant to plant on the changeover.
