Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?

I have driven in it at the Autoshow in Motion, and I liked it a lot. Exhaust sounded great, and I loved the handling. I like a lot about the car, and I would probably think about one if it was RWD. Charger would be in some serious trouble if that was the case. IMO, the GP is one of the better looking large sedan out there with its sporty roof line, and now the GXP package makes it tops. Wish the interior was kicked up a notch, but its pretty good as it stands.
If I had 30k to spend on a v8 sedan, it would come down to the GXP or Charger R/T.

Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?

I have driven the car, though unfortunately I was limited to a 5-10 minute drive, and it was raining. Not exactly the best time to sample 303 hp...

My overall impression of the car was excellent, though. It masks its fwd layout pretty well, and it has a certain "heft" to it that makes it feel like a large-ish, purposeful sedan, but one that can still handle and stop with authority. Something about the view over the hood and the feel of the steering just made me think that, for some reason. Quick reactions, firm brakes, excellent power, cool interior upgrades.

My biggest beef, and one that could keep me from getting it personally, if I were actually in the market for a car like that? The 4 speed auto. For 95% of the people, it is fine. But I'm a stick shift person to begin with (see sig), and I also like to have more gears. I understand why no manual is available, but I'd really, REALLY like to drive this car with the new 6 speed autos GM is introducing. Holy cow that would be a sweet addition to the car. As it is, with the tall axle to permit the excellent 28 mpg hwy rating (compared to the LX cars' 25 mpg), the gearing is limiting. 1st gear will hit right around 60 mph, and 2nd gear will hit around 100 mph. Not much of a need for tap shift when 2 gears will do just about any speed you want... Made me wonder what the old 2 speed powerglides were like...

But the overall car is awesome. And like I said, for most people it isn't that big of a deal. As has been pointed out, the LS4 has a rather healthy dose of power and torque, so even with only 4 gears, the car moves. I just think it would be a more satisfying drive with a six speed. I personally LOVE the styling changes. About the only angle I don't like on the car is the direct side profile view, because the front overhang is too long. But the 18" wheels fill out the car much better (and look great too), and I love the upgraded front end and other detail changes.

I drove one at the Auto Show in Motion. I really liked it. The only thing I don't like about the car is the steering wheel shift paddles, and the understeer (physics is a bitch). I don't like the pull/push actuation of the paddle. It is too hard to use in aggressive driving. I would prefer a right side upshift left side downshift paddle (or vice versa). You can really plow the front end with a lot of throttle earlier in a turn. It is not really a knock on the car as you can't tune out a lot of horsepower in a FWD package. If I had the money I would buy one in a heartbeat.

That quote there? I couldn't put it better myself. I agree with 100% of what you said, especially the "heft" part. Amazing, considering the W supposedly hasn't changed much Or at least, that's what the GM Bashers would like you to think.

I have news for everyone. My own GP, while also a W obviously, is solid. But nowhere near as solid as this new GXP. Its amazing.
