Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
Besides Charlie and I, anyone? The reason why I ask is because I've seen 2 on the road so far today, and just got out of the one I have on the lot here. I'm seeing red again
I need this car. I want this car. There has never been a car on this lot, in the 5 years I've worked here, that I said I NEED before, aside from a Formula Firehawk
And because I already had the Z, I passed on the Hawk.
But this GXP keeps sucking me back in. I still can't afford it, but boy do I want it. The sound, the handling, the seats, the power, the BRAKES. Even the look is right now, with the GXP upgrades.
God, I love this car. Sorry, I had to vent...and encourage EVERYONE in the market for a new car right now to go look at this thing. The reason I got in it was because I had a guy in a Hemi Ram just drive it with me, comparing it to the R/T Charger he just got out of at the Dodge store down the street?
In his opinion? The GP is every bit as fast (which road tests verify), stops better, handles at least as good if not better, and he likes the looks and the features of the GXP better, and it costs less and gets better MPG.
Advantage = Pontiac
(I need to quit this job and just work at the bank before I end up sleeping in one of these because I can't afford my house anymore
)

Excellent car at any price point. Those who dismiss it as another lame FWD car are only cheating themselves.
Try and you will buy.
That's my stand.
Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
Yeah, tell me about it...I keep trying and want to buy it
Thankfully, I think I have this one sold...no trade so its an easy deal. At $500 over invoice, he's happy
And seeing as how our next GXP is on order and not even preferenced yet, I can take a break until the next one comes in, and calm down
Although, this one is still parked next to my office, and I have to go put it back. I don't want to do that, because then I may never get out of it!
Have a good sales day, Lew

Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
It's the one FWD car I've given serious consideration to, I'll tell you that.
I have yet to even see one much less test drive it though. They seem harder to find than a C6.

Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
How are sales doing on these cars? I have only seen one on the roads in the several months it has been out now. I was checking out a nice black one at the Pontiac dealer and the sales guy was trying real hard to get me out of my GTP and into this car and no matter how much I liked it, there is no way I can afford it, especially since I still have payments left on my GTP. Plus, it is becoming a chore to maintain two nice cars...I am seriously thinking about selling the GTP in spring when it is paid off and buying a cheap 4 cylinder beater and just focusing my performance craving on the Z-28 only. I don't know, decisions, decisions
Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
Because dealers are too asinine to stock more than 1-2 of them (sadly, I fall in this category at the moment
Working on that, though...).
They are not low volume. They are not hard to preference. Dealers are too dumb to STOCK THEM. Just go find the closest one, and enjoy
Be prepared to buy, though

I hear ya on the 2 car thing. It is hard when you're young (and just bought a house, in my case). As much as I love my GP, I'd love a GXP. But even I have thought about selling my GP for a cheap Grand Am or something like my fiance has so I can focus on the Z28 and buying an IROC or the Formula...not to mention maybe saving a buck or two

The problem is, I love having a nice car to drive every day. A dead reliable one at that. I don't miss having coolant puking into the interior when the heater core blew (like in my '89 Formula), or having Pass Key decide to disable my car AGAIN (like in my '89 RS) every 3-4 months. Get in, turn the key and go. And in the case of an older GP like yours or mine, look damn good doing it

So good in fact, that I plan to do some more basic mods to it next spring...Power Slots, an RT downpipe, CAI and a few other things. I figure if I keep the interest going in the GP, I can at least keep me out of a GXP for awhile
Wifey deserves a new car first, not me...

Too early to get good GXP figures to judge the car, since it seems it just recently became available to the public. Going to need a few months to get a good picture as to how it's doing.
Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
I may look into getting a used one in a few years when my wife and I have kids. I wouldn't have considered it, but from the way it's been talked up around here I can't not look at it!!
I work at the oshawa plant producing them and we are making more v8's today than the CompG so people are liking the v8!
I drove one and took it for a good test and I was thoroughly impressed, everybody that is saying how dated the w platform is should take this thing for a ride. There have been so many upgrades to it that even the guys working on the line with no engineering backgrounds will tell you it looks like a different platform.
I found that the ride was very firm. I mean, you can feel every cracks or little bumps on the road but the suspension still soaked up the larger bumps without any complaints from the chassis. No rattles whatsoever and I was expecting a little something.
Right before my testdrive I had taken out a G6 GTP coupe with the 6spd and I was sad to see that it had a few problems with it and since it's suposedly a newer/stiffer platform, it should behave better. The car had rattles over bumps, rattles from the side windows, rattles from the shifter (the ring you pull up to put the car in reverse rattled against the stick) and the car had much more bodyroll than I'd care for. Wasn't this car supposed to have levels of refinements never before seen in a pontiac before???!
To get back to the GP, If I could afford one and If my GF liked the car, I'd put my order in tomorrow morning. I liked the car that much. It feels as fast as my Z28 but has better seats, more MPGs, as firm of a ride without all the rattles my camaro has. The car is almost too quiet. I wished it had a louder exhaust but I think it's just that we've put in a lot of sound deadeners in that car almost like the Buick LaCrosse with their "Quiet Tuning" process.
The LS4 is a sweet motor, I'd have no problems seeing that in the 5th gen camaro.
The GP isn't perfect and could use better quality materials in the dash especially aroung the D.I.C. but that can be said about every GM car these days. The rest of the car is just wonderful in my eyes.

I was not a fan of the FWD and its torque steer but the only real problem I saw with this car was the transmission. This car was a five-speed away from being a star.

I'll agree with you about the transmission especially since it has tap shift. A 5 spd auto would make this car perfect.
Another thing I forgot to mention was that the tap shift in the GP was SO much better than in the G6. In the G6 it was sloppy but in the GP the shifts were crisp as can be!!!
Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
I test drove a GP GXP a few months ago. Very nice. Suspension was about as stiff and responsive as my 05 GTO. It was definitely quicker and more torquey than the 04 GP CompG I had. As for this A4 vs A5 thing... the car has such a flat and thick torque curve it barely matters IMHO.
Re: Anyone else driven a GXP yet?
Agreed...personally, I think the 4t65e-HD is a damn good tranny. The WOT "hey, wait a second, are you SURE you want to do this????oh, alright....BWAAAAAAAA" hesitation inherent in every 3800 car known to man is gone in this iteration. When I drive it, I don't even bother with the tap shift. It just feels so SOLID with the Bilsteins and revised tuning...its even rides better than a Comp G did!!! Comp Gs kind of got panned for a rough ride...these won't.
I went to the Boston Auto Show last night, and I have to say...my next car will most definitely be a W Body V8...but not this one
That's for another post.
