Not really much mentioned about what it will definately be called, what it will be, who can afford it, and what it will do/capabilities...

Nothing new since the flurry of rumors afew month ago.

 

SVT's website is calling it the "2007 SVT Mustang Cobra", but who knows if that will change. I don't think anything is written in stone right now. It'll be two years before it makes it to the streets. A lot can happen in that amount of time.

 

Latest Rumor is 400hp+ n/a V8

 

No one but SVT/Ford people know what that's going into. You can almost be certain one of the SVT Cobras will have a supercharged motor. The n/a V8 supposedly is slated for a SE (Boss or Mach1 or Shelby). That's the last I heard. We're supposed to see something special at SEMA. It's probably going to be the Saleen or other aftermarket Mustang.

 

What's for sure?

1. It will be out in 2006 as a 2007 model.
2. John Colletti of SVT indicated that it's power & performance is going to blow everyone's socks off.

What's rumored?

1. The Mustang "concept" is a peek at the next Cobra.
2. The next Cobra will have about 500 horsepower.
3. The next Cobra will be renamed because of Ford's plans to market the Cobra showcar when the Ford GT's run is through.

Other SVT news:
1. Like Dodge's SRT (which was expanded from just Dodge to Chrysler models late last year) SVT will have a greatly expanded role, eventially covering Lincoln-Mercury as well.
2. Futura will have an SVT version as will a crossover vehicle.
3. SVT will be on the market again early next year with the 2006 Ford Lightning. Word is it will have some version of the blown Ford GT engine with a supercooler.

 

Ahhhh, sigh of relief. At least it sounds like Ford is on the right track and is stepping up the game a couple notches. I'd hate to think the SVT "Cobra"/Mustang as not having a blower now since the 03-04's have them with great success. It would be a total step backwards, and a step backwards to the aftermarketeers to not have one on the car, which can cheaply be modded to blow most of all cars off the streets.

Lightning should be interesting to see
