Any chance for a V8 in the 2008 Malibu?
Any chance for a V8 in the 2008 Malibu?
Since it is getting bigger in size and filling in for the FWD V8 Impala SS it only makes sence that the Malibu/Impala replacement gets an LS4 V8. It also keeps the Malibu one step ahead of Ford, Hyundia, Honda, Dodge, Nissan, and Toyota.
Re: Any chance for a V8 in the 2008 Malibu?
I’m not sure if there is really a market for this type of car, if anything it should get one of the hi-po V6s coming out soon. People really dont buy Malibu's for performance though.....
Re: Any chance for a V8 in the 2008 Malibu?
In a car as small as the malibu it'd be a bitch to make an V8 fit and make the car still reasonably inexpensive to be worked on. Not to mention it could screw up the front to rear weight balance even more for a small FWD car.
It's just not something that the market cars about. Most of the manufacturers today are getting V6s to close in on the 300hp mark - some are even past that mark now... meaning a hi performance V6, at best, would be the ideal solution. Though really if you want a high performance malibu you should just get a G6 GTP instead, IMO.

If the next Impala goes RWD and the Malibu grows in size and replaces the FWD lmpala in the lineup, then yes, I can totally see this happening.
Basically, Chevy adds the RWD large car. Replaces the existing FWD large car, and does away with the mid size FWD car (or replaces that with antoher name too)

The V8 Impala SS, I believe, is selling a LOT stronger than the SuperCharged V6 Impala SS from the year before.
And, there are still a lot of people in the snow areas that want V8 power with FWD.
I don't think there'd be anything wrong with offering both.
