In an alternate universe . . .
In an alternate universe . . .
The powers-that-be at GM woke up and realized that with a $4900 average incentive on cars sold in 2004, their sticker prices are WAY out of step with what people expect to see in dealerships.
Since they can't get new, better cars in the dealers for several years, they decided to accept the reduced profits of 2004 in exchange for a "shock and awe" program on sticker prices. The goal: to give every model they could the coveted "reverse sticker shock" of the Chrysler 300.
Here are some of the prices they announced.
Cobalt...$11,995 base
Malibu...$15,995 base
Impala...$19,995 base
SSR (hardtop only)...$28,995 base
Corvette...$36,995 base coupe/$42,995 base convertible
G6...$16,995 base
Solstice...delayed to include a 300 HP V8, $23,995 base with V8
GTO...$28,995
CTS...$25,995
STS...$33,995
XLR...$62,995
In related news, they also announced the Kevorking of Buick and the elimination of their "benchmarking" program, to be replaced by Leapfrog Task Force, headed by some of the most acclaimed names in engineering and design.
Would this help? Discuss.

Re: In an alternate universe . . .
the corvette would never go for that low
consider that it's an all new car that costs LESS than the model it replaced
people are more than happy to pay that kind of money for a vette considering everything you get with it

Re: In an alternate universe . . .
I definately think it would help. Reverse sticker shock would be wonderfull. They have to discount most of the cars they sell anyway. They ought to just knock off the discount from the outset and sell more cars I say.
Re: In an alternate universe . . .
My answer to this is..............
NOBODY ever pays the sticker price not even at Saturn!
Are we getting spoiled or what? This is the USA, the goal of evey bussiness in the USA is to seperate you from your dollars!
If thinking you get a discount works why mess with it. Or a "rebate" works more power to you.
Remember that $4900 was the average rebate, somebody didn't get any and somebody made out like a bandit........ $o rebate to $9000 rebate averages to BINGO $4900! Nobody got $9000 rebate of a $12000 Cobalt. $9000 was on H2 or Denali at over $60,000.
Fact #2 the "average" person rolled $3900 of debt from his trade into his new loan!

Re: In an alternate universe . . .
I agree with you on the Cobalt, Malibu, Impy, G6 and XLR.
Regardless of the MSRP though, the Cobalt is going to sell in huge numbers. A friend paid a smidgen over $13k for one and it feels like it was worth every dollar. He's a Ford guy and couldnt be happier driving his little Chevy. I give him enough **** for it

Re: In an alternate universe . . .
Caddilac is WAY over priced. I like the CTS but it requires too many Benjamins.
The last Chevy I bought was a 2001 Z71 Suburban. The sticker was $42K I paid $31K (-$11K).
The reason the sticker prices are so high is the hope of the small percentage of people who are stupid enough to pay it instead of dealing.

How is CTS "WAY overpriced"?
An average CTS with some add-on options stickers for only $4-5k more than a loaded Impala or Ford 500, and a Chrysler 300 can be priced even with it, or even higher.
It is a luxury marque after all... it should be a bit more.
Re: In an alternate universe . . .
I think the CTS is abit overpriced also.
Click all the boxes and you can get it over $60K!!!!!! according to Edmunds, (That's NOT for a CTSv, BTW).
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/cadi....1.1.Cadillac*
Even if all you get is the 3.6, six speed, sport package and sunroof....it still MSRP's for over 36K.
Wonderful chassis, sweet motor.....but for than kind of money, I'd like a much nicer interior, cooler wheels and some nicer colors.

The reason it is way overpriced for me is b/c I live in an expensive house. My friends tell me, "You live in an expensive house, you should have an expensive car" It's b/c I live in a an expensive house is why I can't have an expensive car.

Go to www.cadillac.com, and build a non-V CTS, with every single option available (special paint even) and it tops out at $45,490.00

Agreed, I think you have "CTS" and "STS" mixed up.

Anyway, as much as I like the chassis and motor, a 3.6/M6, sport pkg and sunroof, for north of 36K is abit pricey.

I think its a fair price given what you get , its definately a fun car to drive . Its only problem is the dashboard and the ugly wheel options on the non-V . Cant wait for the next gen CTS's though , I think Caddy has learned alot and will have a much tighter package next time around .
