Almost overlooked...Pontiac is about to have the most performance vehicles at GM!
Fair enough mate you are correct ,I havent viewed the Youtube video and will have a look. Point about self-promotion is still valid however, you could of just posted the direct link to Youtube.
I made a post some time ago about GM making Pontiac a brand with mostly sports vehicles, and everyone said it was a very bad idea. Have any opinions changed? Have consumers changed (some of the cars haven't hit the dealers yet; so i am asking a serious question)?
Maybe our tendency towards performance vehicles, even though they say this site and the following of faster cars is a niche, were right after all? Maybe this market is a bit more than a niche?
edit: I think I posted some time ago about how Pontiac was saved by some performance cars back in the 50s and that we needed that again. Looks like GM is coming through.

I think that's an excellent idea. Five or six mostly RWD models, all sport biased with a serious performance option available, coupled with a small well-done line of Buick near-luxury cars and the GMCs... sounds like a strong lineup to me.
want something even harder to swallow? the '07 V6 Camry accelerates from 0-60 as fast as a 350Z, according to Car and Driver.
I don't see how anybody could say it is a bad idea considering we've all been saying it for years. If Pontiac is to be a true performance brand, then they must be RWD, sport vehicles. Small, medium, and large.
I truly agree with that. The G8 I believe, will supplant the GTO quite effectively. Had the G8 been available, I would have never given the GTO a second thought when I was considering purchasing one.

I've made posts about Pontiac being GMs performance brand but can't find those posts right now.
Saw a commercial today showing that the new Altima will out accelerate the Camry...but Car & Driver shows the opposite:
Altima:
270hp/258lbft
0-to-60-mph time: 5.9 sec
Quarter-mile time: 14.6 sec @ 99 mph
Camry:
268hp/248lbft
0-to-60-mph time: 5.8 sec
Quarter-mile time: 14.3 sec @ 99 mph
Looks like a driver's race to me..
It looks like the 350Z has problems, it should be way faster...
350Z:
306hp/268lbft
0-to-60-mph time: 5.6 sec
Quarter-mile time: 14.2 sec @ 99 mph
Altima:

Didn't realize it till I saw the G8 intro video.
The Solstice GXP has 260 horses, and does 0-60 within about a second of a Corvette....... with half the cylinders?
The G6 GXP, though less radical in horsepower and performance, will still likely be the quickest US made car in that class.
The GXP Torrent (of all things) is going to run under 7 seconds to 60mph. Save an SRT Caliber, again pretty quick for a small crossover.
Now a V8 powered G8 GT that has 22 more horsepower, a pound or 2 more torque, roughly 100-200 pounds lighter, and apparently about $2,000 cheaper than a Dodge Charger R/T, runs 155 mph, will likely see under 14 in the quarter, and still isn't likely to be the top performance model for very long.
I'd say as soon as the G6 GXP & the G8 hits the streets, if nothing else, Pontiac will no doubt be GM's performance division.

Corvette
Cobalt SS S/C
HHR SS
Equinox Sport
Silverado SS
TrailBlazer SS
Not counting soon-to-be defunct...
Malibu SS
Impala SS
Monte Carlo SS
And around the corner...
New Malibu SS?
New Impala SS
Camaro
Not all of those are my "performance" cup of tea, but neither is the G6 or Torrent GXP. I like where Pontiac's going, but Chevy still waves the GM performance flag.
Whats up w/ the "mere" 362hp rating, what's the deal w/ the L76 vs the LS2? Forgive the stupid question, I haven't been following the G8 very closely. That's a little disappointing (at least on paper), I was expecting a LS2 in the V8 model.
Any rumors of the L76 showing up in a Camaro model?
