Almost overlooked...Pontiac is about to have the most performance vehicles at GM!
Didn't realize it till I saw the G8 intro video.
The Solstice GXP has 260 horses, and does 0-60 within about a second of a Corvette....... with half the cylinders?
The G6 GXP, though less radical in horsepower and performance, will still likely be the quickest US made car in that class.
The GXP Torrent (of all things) is going to run under 7 seconds to 60mph. Save an SRT Caliber, again pretty quick for a small crossover.
Now a V8 powered G8 GT that has 22 more horsepower, a pound or 2 more torque, roughly 100-200 pounds lighter, and apparently about $2,000 cheaper than a Dodge Charger R/T, runs 155 mph, will likely see under 14 in the quarter, and still isn't likely to be the top performance model for very long.
I'd say as soon as the G6 GXP & the G8 hits the streets, if nothing else, Pontiac will no doubt be GM's performance division.

I am getting very excited about G8. Seeing as I'm planning on purchasing a new vehicle in about 2 years, my love for potent V8s and manual transmission will very likely drive me to a Pontiac dealer to *seriously* consider that car.
I'm hoping it will make it to Canada by the end of 2008.
edit: NEVERMIND! Here's a linky to another thread.

and what's coming down the pipeline?
1. G8 GXP
2. GTO?
3. Small sports sedans, coupes, etc. all built off one platform?
They should have done something more with the G6 GXP. It looks like a ricer's dream, except it doesn't have any additional power or manual transmission.

Yup, but I wouldn't call it pessimism.Listen, anything might happen down the road.
Maybe Pontiac dealers won't F up the G8's launch.
Maybe Holden will need to add a third shift to keep up with Pontiac demand.
Maybe sometime after '10, Oshawa will build G8's.
Maybe the Camaro will not be Holden's "Monaro replacement".
Maybe the whole Alpha program will implode.
Maybe GM will rethink it's B-P-GMC sales channel strategy and decide that each division shouldn't only be limited to 3 or 4 products.
Maybe the coupe market will explode wildly and Mustang/Camaro/Challenger/CTS won't be able to satisfy demand.
Maybe one day Pontiac will get another GTO.
Lots of maybe's.

Did you see my interview with Bob? I asked him just where Pontiac is now, compared to before. We even had the ***** to bring up the "damaged brands" comment.

Yeah, I'm not sure why/how GM dropped the ball with the G6 GXP. It seems like a step backward from where the brand's heading (less appearance crap, more power).
True, but I look at it in a glass half full kind of way. Regardless of how much GM likes to plan ahead, they are ultimately at the mercy of the market. If the public developes a really powerful demand for the Pontiac G8, then I wouldn't be shocked if some people in GM to start clamouring for coupe to sit next to it in the showroom.
I'll also be honest in saying I don't really miss the '04-'06 GTO now that this is in the lineup, and guess that this car would satisfy 80-90 percent of that car's market. A new GTO would only work if it were more retro, to fill that niche.
