Guy has said in the past that barring a catostrophic financial meltdown at GM, the RWD "Chevy coupe" will come to be. The purchase of Fiat hardly qualifies as a "meltdown".

Mustangs have been doing EXTREMELY well from what I've heard #'s wise. But up here the dealer cant get a hold of any aside from a v6 auto (white) and a GT auto (in hideous green). I bet there are a lot of orders placed for them though, and come spring they'll be allll over.

I hope the "i told you so" in GM continues at the sight of killer mustang sales and they realize a Camaro is NEEDED.

The Camaro couldnt be a niche car. It wouldnt survive. If it is to compete against the Mustang, as is it's place, it needs to be competitive. If it is competitve and sells decently, I think the image/icon (call it what you will) returning to the fleet will have a suprising effect. But by "decently" they need to sell 50,000 a year at bare bones minimum.

People say the mustang is doing well... but I havent seen ONE on the road yet. I havent seen any 300C's in months. I see the Magnums here and there. I guess we'll see through the next few months and start of spring...

50,000 Camaros still doesnt reach the 100k-150k the plant needs. There needs to be something else...
Ford has diverted shipments to the south during the winter months.

Currently, the car with the next highest priority at Chevrolet is a sporty coupe.

The situation at Fiat isn't affecting GM North America's product plans (as much as an economic slowdown or higher intrest rates would).

Werm is right that any product at GM could be cancelled up to the time tooling is ordered. But as was pointed out above, it's going to take an extreme situation to derail the Camaro replacement. And it's going to take something absolutely catostrophic (think bankruptcy) for GM to shut down Zeta.

I'm not going to touch the reasons regarding Chevy's coupe (it will come out soon enough ), but Zeta is going into production in Australia in just about a year. This means all the development & engineering work on the chassis has been done & it's likely in some phase of durability testing. This means it WILL be going into production in Australia. The car was developed primarily to sell in North America.

Get the drift?

end quote.

Production starting in roughly one year would indicate a MY2007 car correct?

I am confused now, this sounds as though they would build Chevy's coupe in Aus? What about Wilmington? Or are they planning on Wilmington to start around the same time?

Tad bit confused as well. I was on the tracks of GM building the GTO here on Zeta and exporting the Monaro to Australia. Is the Chevy Zeta being built in Aus and being exported to the U.S. or is it going to be a completely different car in Aus?

Pretty sure Guy was referring to the Commodore and not the Monaro . As far as I know , the Zeta coupes havent had a site mentioned yet , and will be , Monaro included , built stateside or in Canada .

Zeta coupes are predicted to be built in the states only possibly along with the Ute/Camino. Both would be 2 doors and built on a separate line from the sedans/crossovers that would be in the same building, Oshawa 1 or 2 most likely.

You guys should think of what GM's 2 biggest priority launches are coming up GMT900 and Zeta everything else we are getting is just icing these are the big ticket items.

OK, I'm going ot throw a dart at the wall, and see if it sticks:

Zeta is similar to Sigma, Sigma is used on CTS.

We have that mysterious CTS "Super-V" with the hood bulge.... yet, by all accounts, there is no such thing as a "Super-V". So, since Sigma is similar to Zeta, coudl this car be a test mule for our Zeta car wearing CTS skin?

There was a C5 test mule running around wear 4th Gen Camaro clothes at one point around 1995... I saw the car at the Nation Corvette Museum, and I believe it's talked about in All Corvettes Are Red (though it's been a long time since I read that book).

Am I nuts... or is this feasable?

Your point about disguised mules which are sometimes used for testing is valid.

However, that CTS with a hood bulge.....is in fact a CTS. And the assertion that Zeta is similar to Sigma is merely an assumption.

Zeta is base on Sigma. It was orginally named Sigma-Lite.

Check your sources.

Sigma-lite, BTW, is just a name.
