After a week with a Chevrolet Impala

WRT to interior volume, the Impala is indeed pretty close to an Intrepid and a couple inches bigger than the Accord in front and rear hiproom and rear legroom. This is the sort of thing that can be deceptive unless you're carrying a tapemeasure, because styling differences can make an interior seem more cramped or open than it really is. While the Wimpala is definitely smaller than the old B-body, it's larger than most of its FWD family-sedan competition.

One thing you are forgetting is that the Impala is not in the same price class as the cars you listed. There is currently a $4,000 rebated on the Impala..which easily brings a well equiped car into the low $20s.

Very aware of the price range, but people buy what they really want, and aren't afraid to pay for it, much like those who buy a V6 Camaro with ground effects for the same price or more than as a base model Z28
. Why save money if it doesn't have the things that's important to you?If I were buying a sedan, my guideline is that it's RWD and under $30,000. All the cars I mentioned can be had for under that, so if I had to by a family sedan even if Impalas sold at $15K, a good used LS V8 or CTS V6 at $28K would get my vote first.
But going back to reality, my next new car will likely be either the GTO, or the next Mach1, not a sedan
.

And I had other factors in buying the Camaro...like insurence...and that there wasn't a Z28 anywhere at the time that could be DXed for under $27K
