Thumbs down

6 speed auto....with fifth and sixth being overdrive gears.
Any possible incremental MPG wrung out of multiple overdrives will be massively overriden by the constant challenge of accelerating all that mass in city driving. Sorry, I'm seeing very low-teen city MPG coming for SRT8's.... MAYBE Mid-teen combined MPG if they are lucky. Blah. The only good news: you cant see the hideous front end while driving it

all that mass? gee wiz, a planetary gearset is REALLY heavy, isn't it? sure, it means more solenoids, wiring and stuff, but I don't think it'll hurt too much. I'm surprised it has taken this long to get as many gears out of those things.

I think he was referring to the mass as in the size and weight of the car.

Lets try to dispel this myth right now. A hemi 6.1L cannot produce
490lbs-ft of torque (unless its blown, or tubo)

Maybe a race car version that doesn't have to meet emissions or durability.

But to increase torque to that level from only 6.1 L you'd have to get it to rev super high or increase displacement alot more.

Otherwise whi isn't the 6.0 LS2 making that much torque??? Because it cannot. Hp is easier to increase then torque.

I saw this exact post on one of the Mopar sites recently.

As far as torque goes...no one really know where the 6.1 will end up. I've heard anywhere from 440 ft/lbs to 490 ft/lbs.

I'm with 305fan... in fact I'll be amazed if it gets over 400 ft lb.

That's not a very ambitious target. The current 5.7 is virtually a K&N filter away from hitting that.

There are all sorts of figures flying around....up to 490 lb/ft.

One source, who claims to have contact within DCX engineering claims 448 lb/ft of torque.

In truck applications this motor will replace the discontinued 8.0L V10. In car applications, it will power most of the SRT-8 models....although there have also been rumors of supercharged 5.7 Hemi's.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a max torque version for trucks, and a better balance between torque and horsepower for cars.

One thing though, if it doesn't make substantially more than 400 lb/ft of torque.....there's not much point to developing it.
